Melanie Lewis was appointed Director of Community Development January 5, 2004. Melanie is a graduate of Northside High School, Dillard University (B.A. French), and Columbia University (M.I.A. International Affairs). She has also studied abroad in Liege, Belgium and Martinique, French West Indies.

Most recently, she attended DePaul University where she received her certification to teach English as a Second Language. While a graduate student in New York, Melanie taught literacy and language arts enrichment to young students in the Harlem Empowerment Zone site. She also worked with refugee communities through her work with the Lutheran Church World Services.

Upon completion of graduate studies in 1998, Melanie began working for the U.S. State Department where she served in various positions in Washington and overseas.

In May 2003, Melanie serving as one of two faculty advisors for the National Youth Leadership Forum International Mission on Diplomacy, led a group of 80 university students leaders on a three-week tour of South Africa. Melanie assisted students in understanding the economic, political, and social challenges facing that nation and its communities.
