The 3rd floor of the Acadiana Recovery Center contains the 24 bed residential unit. The unit is staffed 24 hours per day by the nursing department. The length of stay in this program is 21-28 days. All clients are voluntary admissions and the unit is not locked. Referrals into the program come from various sources/agencies. Most referrals come from a local clinic, detoxification unit, probation officer, or the judicial system. Although each client is admitted voluntarily, his or her motivating factors vary.
The Acadiana Recovery Center also enjoys ongoing partnership with Parks and Recreation within Lafayette Consolidated Government. This partnership began when Acadiana Recovery Center opened its doors in March 1999. The residential clients attend a weekly recreational outing at one of the area recreation centers.
The residential clients have also enjoyed exposure to many cultural and religious events with the community through the generosity of many civic and cultural groups. The clients have enjoyed complimentary tickets to performances by the Acadiana Symphony, Corale Acadienne, Performing Arts Society of Acadiana (PASA), etc. Clients have also on a regular basis, toured Vermilionville and the Jean LaFitte Center.
Each bedroom on the residential unit can accommodate four adults and contains individual locked lockers for personal articles, as well as, bathroom facilities. The unit also has laundry facilities with washer, dryer, and washing powder. Due to a limited storage space, clients are requested to bring a five to six day supply of clothes.
Clients are not allowed to bring their personal vehicles to the facility due to limited parking space. Priority admissions are given to the following:
- Pregnant women
- Women with dependent children
- IV drug users
- Persons with HIV/AIDS
- Homeless
Family Program: The Acadiana Recovery Center makes every effort to encourage family/significant other to participate in the family program. This program is held every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and is led by a Certified or Licensed Addictions Counselor. The Acadiana Recovery Center recognizes chemical dependency as a family disease and that it is also treatable. We believe that the treatment should include family education and conjoint sessions. We believe that successful treatment must include the family. Children 13 years old or older are encouraged to attend the family program.
After Care: All residential clients design an aftercare plan with their counselor. The aftercare plan may include referral to a half way house for secondary treatment; a job training program; GED educational classes; outpatient clinic for continued treatment. It is the belief of the Acadiana Recovery Center that attendance and participation in 12 step support groups, such as A/A, N/A, and C/A are necessary to safe guard a person’s sobriety after treatment. Alumni of the Acadiana Recovery Center are encouraged to attend the weekly Sunday night “Share and Care” meeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Acadiana Recovery Center. We feel it is also important that Alumni share their experience, strengths, and hope with clients in the program as a way of “giving back” to the program.
