Overview of Counselor in Training Program

Prospective trainees for the CIT Program must be at least 18 years of age and must complete the following ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS in order to be accepted into the program:

  • Submit a completed Application for Admission.
  • Pass a Criminal Background Check.
  • Register with Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority as a Counselor in Training. www.la-adra.org

Once enrolled in the training program, a CIT will receive daily clinical supervision by a Licensed Addiction Counselor or Masters level clinician. Training will focus on the 12 Core Functions, and how they relate to the CIT’s training at the present training site. Additional topics such as ethics, medical aspects of addiction, other addictive disorders, confidentiality, mental health law, and more will be addressed. Course topics will be presented in a cyclical manner so that CIT’s may enter the training program at any time.
