APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INTERNET APPLICATIONS

 

Only U.S. citizens and non-citizens authorized to work in the United States by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service are eligible for employment by the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The deadline may be found at the top of the front of the application. Applications will not be accepted after the posted deadline. Applications must also include an original signature. Residents who live in the Lafayette area must turn-in their applications at the Civil Service office. If you live outside the Lafayette area, a copy of the required information must accompany the application before it is accepted.

In order for an application to be accepted, the following items are required at the time the application is turned in.
 
  • Proof that the applicant is 18 years of age or older and has permission to work in the United States issued by the Department of State if not a citizen, and has submitted to the Civil Service Office the prescribed completed employment forms of the aforementioned, prior to the deadline for applications.
  • Proof of a social security number. If you do not have your SS card, an official document with number printed on it will be accepted. (Ex: W-2, pay stub, etc.)

    The following item may be turned in at any time before the test is given.

  • Proof of veteran status; DD214. You must show proof of having served 90 consecutive days of active duty and show proof that you were honorably discharged. Any one showing proof will be awarded five points to a passing grade.
  • Deadlines are strictly enforced, your application form with items 1 and 2 listed above must be submitted to the Civil Service Office before both date/time and maximum number of applications stated on the ad or announcement of the vacancy.

Equipment Operator IV$14.23-$17.79/hour/DOEPublic Works
Position is responsible for the SKILLED operation of a GRADALL, Dozer, Excavator, Backhoe, Tandem Dump Truck and other heavy equipment used in maintenance, repair, and construction of large complex drainage projects. Applicants must be able to independently operate the equipment. Work of this class is distinguished from that of Equipment Operator III by the type of equipment operated, the skill level required by the job assignment, and the frequency of operation of the assigned equipment. Graduation from high school and experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment similar to those types listed herein, including some experience in precision work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana Class A CDL with airbrake, combination and/or Tanker endorsements prior to hire. Accepting the first 15 completed applications until filled.

Equipment Operator IV (Backhoe)$14.23-$17.79/hour/DOELUS
Position is primarily responsible for the SKILLED operation of a Backhoe. Depending on area of assignment, may also operate other heavy equipment, including a tandem dump truck or flusher Truck. Applicants must be able to independently operate the equipment. Work of this class is distinguished from that of Equipment Operator III by the type of equipment operated, the skill level required by the job assignment, and the frequency of operation of the assigned equipment. Graduation from high school and experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment similar to those types listed herein, including some experience in precision work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrake, tanker and combination endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana required. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with endorsements, prior to hire required.  Accepting the first 15 completed applications until Friday, December 20, 2013, at noon, or until filled.

Fleet Mechanic $15.89-$19.86/hour/DOEPublic Works
Performs major repairs on automobiles, trucks, tractors, heavy fleet equipment and related mechanical equipment.  Graduation from a standard high school and experience in automotive and hydraulic repair and maintenance work on gasoline and diesel engines; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Valid driver’s license required to apply. Accepting the first 40 completed applications, or until filled. Possession of the appropriate class commercial driver’s license as required by State of Louisiana, upon completion of six-month working test required. Lineman I $13.89-$17.36 /hour/DOE LUS
Responsible for assisting in installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead or underground electrical distribution lines and related components of a municipal electrical distribution system. High school, knowledge of basic electrical principles, and experience related to the maintenance and installation of electrical distribution equipment. Position is subject to 24-hour call and work is sometimes hazardous. Apprenticeship may be required. Valid driver’s license required to apply. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and experience in computer programming and application design; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Energy Control System Training / Compliance Coordinator $28.39-$35.48/hour/DOELUS
Analyzes regulatory agencies’ requirements pertaining to staff performing real time, reliability related tasks on the North American Bulk Electric System (BES), analyzes tasks assigned to staff, develops, implements and maintains comprehensive training&nbsp; materials and methods consistent with a Systematic Approach to Training compliant with the applicable NERC standards. Schedules and coordinates training sessions, conducts training, keeps thorough records and prepares reports. NERC Certification desired. Associate’s degree in a technical field related to industrial electricity, electric generation, transmission and distribution systems, electrical switching, power dispatching and operations of bulk power transmission systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Position is responsible for acquisitions, operations, and maintenance for the infrastructure of Lafayette Consolidated Government’s networks as well as planning and implementing future systems. B.S. in Computer Science with substantial experience with virtual networks, VMware, iSCSI storage area networks with emphasis on design, installation, operations, and maintenance of networks is desired. Cisco experience strongly desired. Substantial experience with designing, installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and supporting a complex network of routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and security devices required. Application Support Specialist $19.69-$24.61/Hour/DOELUS
Position is responsible for providing application support to the Utilities department’s specific computer needs, Smart Grid Related software systems such as Automated Metering, Meter Database Management, Outage Management, Cityworks and related programs. Also responsible for the installation of new releases of packaged software, writing of program code, interaction with end users, troubleshooting and resolving problems. Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Business Statistics, or closely related field and considerable experience with application support and application upgrades; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Environmental Services Inspector$14.09- $17.62/hour/DOE Public Works
Responsible for conducting field inspections and enforcement of ordinances prohibiting the creation of unsanitary and unsightly conditions. Considerable knowledge of appropriate municipal ordinances, the ability to exercise tact and patience in securing compliance and the ability to determine property ownership through use of court house records. AUTOMOTIVE BODY AND FRAME TECHNICIAN $13.55-$16.94/hour/DOEPublic Works
Position is responsible for substantially independent operation of the paint, body and frame repair shop of the Vehicle Maintenance Division. Work involves repairing damaged bodies and body parts of automotive vehicles, such as automobiles, trucks, and buses. Completion of high school and vocational technical school in automotive body, paint, and frame repair, with prior professional experience in the field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Library Associate I$14.16-$17.71/hour/DOELibrary
Positions involve working a public reference/information services desk in the library in both children’s and adult areas. Duties include assisting library patrons in finding and using electronic information resources and databases, books and other library materials. Assists patrons with computers, and other electronic devices to access and use internet resources. Bachelors degree which included minor coursework in library science, and experience working in a library or bookstore setting; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Both full-time and less-than full-positions are available. All positions require working weekends and evening hours.
