APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INTERNET APPLICATIONS

 

Only U.S. citizens and non-citizens authorized to work in the United States by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service are eligible for employment by the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The deadline may be found at the top of the front of the application. Applications will not be accepted after the posted deadline. Applications must also include an original signature. Residents who live in the Lafayette area must turn-in their applications at the Civil Service office. If you live outside the Lafayette area, a copy of the required information must accompany the application before it is accepted.

In order for an application to be accepted, the following items are required at the time the application is turned in.
 
  • Proof that the applicant is 18 years of age or older and has permission to work in the United States issued by the Department of State if not a citizen, and has submitted to the Civil Service Office the prescribed completed employment forms of the aforementioned, prior to the deadline for applications.
  • Proof of a social security number. If you do not have your SS card, an official document with number printed on it will be accepted. (Ex: W-2, pay stub, etc.)

    The following item may be turned in at any time before the test is given.

  • Proof of veteran status; DD214. You must show proof of having served 90 consecutive days of active duty and show proof that you were honorably discharged. Any one showing proof will be awarded five points to a passing grade.
  • Deadlines are strictly enforced, your application form with items 1 and 2 listed above must be submitted to the Civil Service Office before both date/time and maximum number of applications stated on the ad or announcement of the vacancy.

Equipment Operator IV$13.48-$16.85/hour/DOEPublic Works
Position is responsible for the SKILLED operation of a GRADALL, Dozer, Excavator, Backhoe, Tandem Dump Truck and other heavy equipment used in maintenance, repair, and construction of large complex drainage projects. Applicants must be able to independently operate the equipment. Work of this class is distinguished from that of Equipment Operator III by the type of equipment operated, the skill level required by the job assignment, and the frequency of operation of the assigned equipment. Graduation from high school and experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment similar to those types listed herein, including some experience in precision work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana Class A CDL with airbrake, combination and/or Tanker endorsements prior to hire. Energy Control System Training/Compliance Coordinator$27.83-$34.79/hour/DOEUtilities
Analyzes regulatory agencies’ requirements pertaining to staff performing real time, reliability related tasks on the North American Bulk Electric System (BES), analyzes tasks assigned to staff, develops, implements and maintains comprehensive training  materials and methods consistent with a Systematic Approach to Training compliant with the applicable NERC standards. Schedules and coordinates training sessions, conducts training, keeps thorough records and prepares reports. NERC Certification desired. Associate’s degree in a technical field related to industrial electricity, electric generation, transmission and distribution systems, electrical switching, power dispatching and operations of bulk power transmission systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Position is primarily responsible for the SKILLED operation of a Backhoe. Depending on area of assignment, may also operate other heavy equipment, including a tandem dump truck or flusher Truck. Applicants must be able to independently operate the equipment. Work of this class is distinguished from that of Equipment Operator III by the type of equipment operated, the skill level required by the job assignment, and the frequency of operation of the assigned equipment. Graduation from high school and experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment similar to those types listed herein, including some experience in precision work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrake, tanker and combination endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana required. Electrical Engineer III (Power Production) $6,238-$7,797/month/DOELUS
Primary responsibility is continued development and review of procedures, guidelines, and practices, equipment testing, and recording keeping to meet NERC and other regulatory compliance requirements applicable to power generation facilities. Provides Electrical Engineering support for safe, efficient operation of three large natural gas fueled, steam turbine and four combustion turbine electric utility generating units. Performs engineering work on a variety of power generation equipment and systems such as instrumentation and controls, mechanical, civil, chemical, and safety. Develops specifications for new and replacement equipment that meets industry standards. Oversees work by outside contractors. Develops operation and maintenance procedures. Performs equipment testing and maintenance recordkeeping. Troubleshoots, analyzes, and makes recommendations on equipment and system problems. Position is subject to 24-hour call and required overtime work. Duties will include working in areas that have occupational and environmental hazards. Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university, at least four years of service as an Engineer I and Engineer II, or the equivalent if in another jurisdiction, and registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Louisiana required. Non-residents must qualify for reciprocity by the Louisiana State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. Position is responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead or underground electrical distribution lines and related components of the municipal electrical distribution system. Graduation from high school supplemented by courses in basic electricity and experience working as a Lineman I; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.  Must show proof of having passed the written portion of the CDL to apply or a CDL. A pole climbing performance test will be conducted. Louisiana Class A CDL with air brake and combination endorsements within 14 days of hire required. Responsible police work involved with patrolling city recreational parks and centers. Incumbents are responsible for enforcing park rules and regulations to ensure the safety of participants and to protect city property from intentional abuse or vandalism. Graduation from high school, supplemented by some law enforcement training, or some experience in public relations; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Background and polygraphs will be conducted. Valid driver’s license required to apply. Recreation Centers Manager $27.20-$34.01/hour/DOEParks and Recreation
To serve as manager for LCG’s recreation centers division, which employs 28 regular positions in 10 centers, plus a park police section.
