APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INTERNET APPLICATIONS

 

Only U.S. citizens and non-citizens authorized to work in the United States by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service are eligible for employment by the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The deadline may be found at the top of the front of the application. Applications will not be accepted after the posted deadline. Applications must also include an original signature. Residents who live in the Lafayette area must turn-in their applications at the Civil Service office. If you live outside the Lafayette area, a copy of the required information must accompany the application before it is accepted.

In order for an application to be accepted, the following items are required at the time the application is turned in.
 
  • Proof that the applicant is 18 years of age or older and has permission to work in the United States issued by the Department of State if not a citizen, and has submitted to the Civil Service Office the prescribed completed employment forms of the aforementioned, prior to the deadline for applications.
  • Proof of a social security number. If you do not have your SS card, an official document with number printed on it will be accepted. (Ex: W-2, pay stub, etc.)

    The following item may be turned in at any time before the test is given.

  • Proof of veteran status; DD214. You must show proof of having served 90 consecutive days of active duty and show proof that you were honorably discharged. Any one showing proof will be awarded five points to a passing grade.
  • Deadlines are strictly enforced, your application form with items 1 and 2 listed above must be submitted to the Civil Service Office before both date/time and maximum number of applications stated on the ad or announcement of the vacancy.

Equipment Operator IV$2,517-$3,146/month/DOEPublic Works
Position is responsible for the SKILLED operation of a GRADALL, Dozer, Excavator, Backhoe, Tandem Dump Truck and other heavy equipment used in maintenance, repair, and construction of large complex drainage projects. Applicants must be able to independently operate the equipment. Work of this class is distinguished from that of Equipment Operator III by the type of equipment operated, the skill level required by the job assignment, and the frequency of operation of the assigned equipment. Graduation from high school and experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment similar to those types listed herein, including experience in precision work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Apprenticeship may be required. Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrake, combination and/or tanker endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with endorsements, prior to hire required.

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR IV (Backhoe/Vacuum Truck)$14.52-$18.15/Hour/DOELUS
This position performs skilled work in the operation of a backhoe and vacuum truck in the extraction and transferring of sludge from Wastewater Treatment facilities to land farms; position is also responsible for the operation of manual transmission dump truck, terragator, and tractor. Applicants must be able to operate the equipment independently. Employee may work in hazardous situations requiring skill and care in handling the equipment. Experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment similar to those types listed herein, including some experience in precision work; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience. Performance test will be given on manual vacuum truck. Louisiana Class A CDL License with Air Brake, Combination, and Tanker Endorsements. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test; must obtain La. Class A CDL with said endorsements to accept employment. EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II (Tandem Axle Dump Truck)$11.36-$14.21/hour/DOELUS
Position operates a tandem axle dump truck in the repair and maintenance of wastewater collection lines and manholes, drainage projects, street projects, water distribution projects or related, depending on area of assignment. Completion of the eighth grade, some experience in the operation of trucks or equipment similar to those described herein, or any equivalent combination of training and experience is desired. Position(s) operate a manual transmission or an automatic transmission vehicle, depending on area of assignment. Testing will be on both. Applicants must have at least a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) or CDL permit, with endorsement(s) to apply and test but must obtain a Louisiana Class A CDL with air brake, combination, and/or tanker endorsements, prior to appointment. SYSTEMS SECURITY SPECIALIST $27.51-$34.39/Hour/DOE IS&T
Positions in this class ensure the integrity of LCG’s computer networks, computing devices, and electronically stored or transmitted data. Positions monitor hardware, software, networks, Internet presence, telecommunications, and all facets of LCG’s electronic infrastructure. Incumbent selects, installs, and upgrade security hardware and software and will be responsible for development and implementation of recovery plans and for drafting policies relating to security, as well as coordinating PCI compliance. Bachelor’s degree in computer science with substantial experience in network security; or comparable education and experience. RECREATION COORDINATOR$18.17-$22.71/Hour/DOE Parks & Recreation
Plans, organizes, and directs programs in baseball, football, basketball, soccer, and other athletic events for different age groups for the general public. Incumbent is required to work unusual hours and have a considerable amount of public contact. Graduation from a four year college or university with major course work in recreation/physical education, sports management; and considerable experience in organizing general public recreational activities; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience. LINEMAN I$17.44-$21.81/Hour/DOE LUS
Position is responsible for assisting in installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead or underground electrical distribution lines and related components of the municipal electrical distribution system. Position is subject to 24-hour call and work is sometimes hazardous. Graduation from high school, knowledge of basic electrical principles, and experience related to the maintenance and installation of electrical distribution equipment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Valid driver’s license needed to apply. Must have a valid Louisiana driver’s license upon appointment. Must obtain Louisiana Class A CDL license during the working test period (first six months). Positions in this class may be assigned to an apprenticeship as defined by Civil Service Rule IV, Section 6, which requires completion of initial and ongoing training requirements as established by Lafayette Utilities System within two years for continued employment. Performs major repairs on automobiles, trucks, tractors, heavy fleet equipment and related mechanical equipment. Graduation from a standard high school and experience in automotive and hydraulic repair and maintenance work on gasoline and diesel engines; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of the appropriate class (Class B) commercial driver’s license with airbrake endorsement as required by State of Louisiana, upon completion of six-month working test required. Positions in this class provide application support for LUSFiber’s billing software. Installs new releases of packaged software, troubleshoots any problems with software and resolves issues. Also trains users on new, or modifications to, software. Handles requests for information by generating custom reports and running queries. Tests, develops, and implements new business processes to ensure greater efficiency. Degree in Computer Science, Business or closely related field and considerable experience with billing applications/software; or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience. SERVICE STATION ATTENDANT$9.76-$12.20/hour/DOE Public Works
Responsible for the non-mechanical servicing of vehicles, including changing oil, greasing, servicing batteries, changing tires and other related duties. Position requires regular heavy lifting. Experience servicing automotive equipment is strongly desired. Hours are from 11:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M, Monday through Friday or 7:00 A.M to 3:30 P.M., Monday through Friday, depending on position available at time of hire. Valid driver’s license required to apply. Possession of a valid Louisiana Driver’s License upon appointment required. Positions in this class are assigned to an apprenticeship as defined by Civil Service Rule IV, Section 6. This requires the employee to complete initial and ongoing training requirements established by the Public Works Department, Operations, Fleet Maintenance division, within one (1) year for continued employment required. Positions in this class have supervisory responsibilities while purchasing for a predetermined group of departments, or performing management work and computer purchasing, under complex governmental regulations. Incumbents may perform a variety of work in areas of specialized or technical purchasing and contract bidding. Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel in one section of the division, and direction is received from the Purchasing and Property Manager. Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field, and considerable experience in a variety of technical purchasing or contract coordination under governmental regulations; or any equivalent combination of training and experience desired.
