APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INTERNET APPLICATIONS

 

Only U.S. citizens and non-citizens authorized to work in the United States by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service are eligible for employment by the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The deadline may be found at the top of the front of the application. Applications will not be accepted after the posted deadline. Applications must also include an original signature. Residents who live in the Lafayette area must turn-in their applications at the Civil Service office. If you live outside the Lafayette area, a copy of the required information must accompany the application before it is accepted.

In order for an application to be accepted, the following items are required at the time the application is turned in.
 
  • Proof that the applicant is 18 years of age or older and has permission to work in the United States issued by the Department of State if not a citizen, and has submitted to the Civil Service Office the prescribed completed employment forms of the aforementioned, prior to the deadline for applications.
  • Proof of a social security number. If you do not have your SS card, an official document with number printed on it will be accepted. (Ex: W-2, pay stub, etc.)

    The following item may be turned in at any time before the test is given.

  • Proof of veteran status; DD214. You must show proof of having served 90 consecutive days of active duty and show proof that you were honorably discharged. Any one showing proof will be awarded five points to a passing grade.
  • Deadlines are strictly enforced, your application form with items 1 and 2 listed above must be submitted to the Civil Service Office before both date/time and maximum number of applications stated on the ad or announcement of the vacancy.

Grants coordinators are responsible for the solicitation and management of a majority of the grants received by Lafayette Consolidated Government. Work involves researching and providing assistance in obtaining available grants and maintaining records and files necessary in the administration of grants. Incumbents interact in an official capacity with various funding agencies. Work is performed in conjunction with other grants coordinators and under the general direction of the Community Development Grants Manager. Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in business or public administration and administrative experience in coordinating Federal grant-in-aid programs which required research, record-keeping and report writing; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. SYSTEMS ANALYST (LUS Fiber)$27.51-$34.39/Hour/DOELUS Fiber
Responsible for serving as technical architect in planning, designing, and implementing computer information systems which include hardware, software, and associated networks. Position serves as project/team leader to manage designated projects. Responsible for designing and development of program applications and reports utilizing various program languages. Experience w/ various integration tools such as API’s and XML, and application development tools such as JAVA, ASP.net, SQL, etc. Experience w/ LINUX operating systems desirable. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a closely related field of study, as well as considerable professional experience as a programmer, programmer analyst, or a systems analyst; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. EQUIPMENT OPERATOR III (Street Sweeper)$12.86-$16.08/Hour/DOEPublic Works
Work of this class involves the operation of a Street Sweeper (80%), Tandem Dump Truck (10%), Frontend Loader (10%), and related equipment primarily used in the streets division. Must be able to operate the street sweeper. Performance testing will mostly involve the street sweeper. Completion of the eighth grade and experience in the operation of automotive and construction equipment similar to those described herein; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of the appropriate class commercial driver’s license and endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with Air Brake and combination endorsements, prior to hire. Positions in this class have supervisory responsibilities while purchasing for a predetermined group of departments, or performing management work and computer purchasing, under complex governmental regulations. Incumbents may perform a variety of work in areas of specialized or technical purchasing and contract bidding. Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel in one section of the division, and direction is received from the Purchasing and Property Manager. Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field, and considerable experience in a variety of technical purchasing or contract coordination under governmental regulations; or any equivalent combination of training and experience desired. LIBRARY ASSOCIATE I$14.45-$18.06/Hour/DOELibrary
Positions in this class work on a specialized library function involving work of a routine nature. Areas of assignment include makerspace, information desk in children’s, teen or adult areas, copy cataloging, programming and event set up, bookmobile and outreach services, and assignments may fluctuate as needed to facilitate work flow. Work may involve standing for extended periods of time, bending, lifting, or pushing carts loaded with books. Incumbents may be required to work some rotating nights and weekends. Current opening is permanent less than full time; however, full time positions also exist within the class. Additionally, depending on area of assignment, some positions require a valid Louisiana driver’s license prior to appointment. Bachelor’s degree including minor coursework in library science, and experience working in a library or bookstore setting; or any equivalent combination of training and experience desired. PLANT INSTRUMENT MECHANIC II $18.46-$23.08/Hour/DOELUS
Position performs advanced technical electronic, electrical, and mechanical work involved in testing, adjusting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on control system instruments and devices at water treatment or wastewater treatment plants. Employee is responsible for formulating plans, participating in, and keeping records of regularly-scheduled maintenance programs. Incumbents work around potentially hazardous equipment and may be subject to 24-hour call in emergency situations. Graduation from high school, supplemented by technical training in the field of electrical, electronic, and mechanical control instruments and systems, and considerable experience working as an instrument mechanic; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. CIVIL ENGINEERING AIDE SPECIALIST I $19.09-$23.86/Hour/DOEPublic Works
Provides technical support for the Drainage Division. Conducts profile/topographic surveys of locations experiencing inadequate drainage conditions or restrictions. Utilizes board drafting techniques to illustrate ditch profiles. Assists with the inspection and maintenance of complex drainage infrastructure as well as thorough inspection of blockages within improved and unimproved coulees. Position has a strong focus on surveying. Associate’s Degree or completion of a technical specialty program of eighteen months – three years duration in civil engineering technology (or closely related field) and significant prior working experience in the civil engineering field, especially surveying. Valid driver’s license to apply. Must have a valid Louisiana Class E driver’s license prior to appointment. Examination will be a written exam. Sign and Marking Specialist$11.25-$14.06/hour/DOEPublic Works
Purpose of positions in this class is to facilitate safe, efficient movement of traffic through the proper installation and maintenance of traffic control signs and markings. Completion of high school supplemented by substantial experience with installation and maintenance of traffic signs and pavement markings. Positions in this class are assigned to an apprenticeship as defined by Civil Service Rule IV, Section 6. This requires the employee to complete International Municipal Signal Association certification at Level II within five (5) years for continued employment. Valid driver’s license required to apply. Possession of a valid Louisiana (Class D) Chauffeur’s License, within 6 months of hire required. Examination will be a written exam. Customer Service Representative II$12.07-$15.09/Hour/DOELUS
Positions in the class assist customers in person or by telephone with electric, water, and wastewater utility service orders, including service transfers, reconnections, disconnections, and billing matters, with relative independence. Position balances cash registers, drafts letters of credit, and performs other duties as needed. Graduation from high school with experience in utility customer service; or any equivalent combination of education and experience is desired. Examination will be a written exam. LIBRARIAN III$24.33-$30.42/Hour/DOE Library
Positions in this class supervise a complex library section and oversee all aspects of the section’s operations. Duties include preparation of budget requests, employee training and supervision, implementing policies and procedures, and/ or programming and collection development. Incumbents may supervise a small- to moderately-sized staff of professional and paraprofessional employees, and report to the Library Director, Library Administrator, or Regional Library Manager, depending on area of assignment. Current opening is responsible for coordinating the programming and publicity for the library system; however, future openings within the class may be related to other areas of specialization. Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited Library and Information school and progressively responsible professional library experience, including supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience desired. Applicants for all Librarian positions must have a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.) from an ALA accredited institution required. Progressively responsible library experience required. Examination will be a rating of education and experience through a structured interview. UTILITY REPAIRMAN$10.01- $12.51/Hour/DOELUS
Performs maintenance, repair, and construction of underground water pipelines and related. Lifts/moves and operates smoke blowers, fresh air blowers, compressors, tampers, electrical generators, concrete saws, jack hammers, tapping machines, and boring rigs. Assists equipment operators in excavating and climbs into excavations to apply shoring materials and finish excavation of pipe with shovels. Tests repairs, ensures sanitation and safety of workers and customers. Uses computer to input project information on work orders and communicate via email. Work experience in water/wastewater utility maintenance, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have valid driver’s license to apply. Possession of a valid Louisiana driver’s license prior to appointment required. Must be capable of responding to site within one hour of being notified. Examination will be a written exam. BUILDING SUPERINTENDENT$12.86- $16.08/Hour/DOELibrary
Position is responsible, through a small staff, for cleaning, repair and minor construction projects in a public building or functionally related group of buildings. Performs daily inspection of building(s), grounds, and equipment, notes need for repairs or maintenance and independently performs, supervises or coordinates work. Monitors and coordinates contract services performing larger maintenance, repair or construction projects, as assigned by management. Current opening is with the Lafayette Public Library system and involves performing maintenance tasks at heights of up to 30 ft. Completion of High School with industrial technology training, and substantial experience in maintenance of sizable buildings desired. Some positions require possession of a valid Louisiana driver’s license prior to appointment. Applicants without a valid driver’s license will be accepted, but won’t be certified for any positions which require a valid driver’s license. Current opening requires possession of a valid driver’s license and a valid Louisiana driver’s license prior to appointment. Examination will be a written exam.
