APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INTERNET APPLICATIONS

 

Only U.S. citizens and non-citizens authorized to work in the United States by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service are eligible for employment by the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The deadline may be found at the top of the front of the application. Applications will not be accepted after the posted deadline. Applications must also include an original signature. Residents who live in the Lafayette area must turn-in their applications at the Civil Service office. If you live outside the Lafayette area, a copy of the required information must accompany the application before it is accepted.

In order for an application to be accepted, the following items are required at the time the application is turned in.
 
  • Proof that the applicant is 18 years of age or older and has permission to work in the United States issued by the Department of State if not a citizen, and has submitted to the Civil Service Office the prescribed completed employment forms of the aforementioned, prior to the deadline for applications.
  • Proof of a social security number. If you do not have your SS card, an official document with number printed on it will be accepted. (Ex: W-2, pay stub, etc.)

    The following item may be turned in at any time before the test is given.

  • Proof of veteran status; DD214. You must show proof of having served 90 consecutive days of active duty and show proof that you were honorably discharged. Any one showing proof will be awarded five points to a passing grade.
  • Deadlines are strictly enforced, your application form with items 1 and 2 listed above must be submitted to the Civil Service Office before both date/time and maximum number of applications stated on the ad or announcement of the vacancy.

Position is responsible for skilled independent work in installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground power lines and related components of the city-parish electrical transmission and distribution system. Position is subject to 24-hour call and work is sometimes hazardous. Graduation from high school supplemented by courses in basic electricity, and experience as a Lineman II; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Must show proof of having passed the written portion of the CDL to apply. A pole climbing performance test will be conducted. Louisiana Class A CDL with Air Brake and Combination endorsements within 14-days of hire required. Accepting the first 15 completed applications until Friday, May 8, 2015, at noon, or until filled.

Equipment Operator IV (Motor Grader)$14.52-$18.15/hour/DOEPublic Works
Position is primarily responsible for the SKILLED operation of a Motor Grader. Depending on area of assignment, may also operate other heavy equipment, including a tandem dump truck. Applicants must be able to independently operate the equipment. Work of this class is distinguished from that of Equipment Operator III by the type of equipment operated, the skill level required by the job assignment, and the frequency of operation of the assigned equipment. Graduation from high school and experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment similar to those types listed herein, including some experience in precision work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrake and combination endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana required. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with endorsements, prior to hire required. Programmer Analyst (GIS) $23.83-$29.79/hour/DOEIS&T-GIS
Responsible for implementation, trouble shooting, testing, and analyzing and writing applications. Main focus of job is supporting PC applications used by the police department, with a strong emphasis on GIS. BS degree in computer science, GIS or related  field & experience with ESRI products, LAMP and programming languages such as .net, Arc Objects, C#, MVC, or closely related applications. Equipment Operator IV $14.52-$18.15/hour/DOE $2,517-$3,146/month/DOEPublic Works
Position is responsible for the SKILLED operation of a GRADALL, Dozer, Excavator, Backhoe, Tandem Dump Truck and other heavy equipment used in maintenance, repair, and construction of large complex drainage projects. Applicants must be able to independently operate the equipment. Work of this class is distinguished from that of Equipment Operator III by the type of equipment operated, the skill level required by the job assignment, and the frequency of operation of the assigned equipment. Graduation from high school and experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment similar to those types listed herein, including some experience in precision work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrake, combination and/or tanker endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana required. Equipment Operator II$11.36-$14.21/hour/DOELUS
Responsible for the skilled operation of a Tandem Dump Truck. May also operate a Backhoe, Pothole Patching dually, Flusher Truck or other related equipment, depending on area of assignment. Ability to read and write, and experience in the operation of trucks or equipment similar to those described herein; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrake, combination and/or tanker endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana. (depending on area of assignment) Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana Class A CDL with endorsements, prior to hire required. LIBRARIAN I $18.85-$23.56/hour/DOE Library
Position is responsible for planning children’s story times, assisting children and adults with reference questions, planning programs, and assisting patrons with library related technology and electronic resources. Must have a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or be within one or two semesters of completing the same to be considered for this position required. Position is responsible for the solicitation and management of grants received by Lafayette Consolidated Government. Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in business or public administration and administrative experience in coordinating Federal grant-in-aid programs which required research, record-keeping and report writing; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Traffic Signal Tech I$18.17-$22.71/hour/DOE $3,149-$3,936/Month/DOEPublic Works
Position is responsible for skilled work involved in the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signals, signal systems, and associated traffic equipment. Graduation from high school, completion of recognized vocational/technical school course work in electronics and electricity (AC/DC voltage) and experience in traffic signal installation, maintenance, and repair; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Pass International Municipal Signal Association course exam for Level I/Associate Traffic Signal Technician certification within one year, and for Level II/Traffic Signal Technician within two years of employment. Must have a valid driver’s license to apply. Apprenticeship may be required. Positions in this class are assigned to an apprenticeship as defined by Civil Service Rule IV, Section 6. This requires the employee to complete initial and ongoing training requirements, IMSA Level I, as established by Traffic and Transportation within one (1) year for continued employment, including the obtainment of the appropriate class of Driver’s License (Class D) as required by the State of Louisiana during the working test period required. Position is responsible for custodial and housekeeping duties in and around City-Parish buildings. Ability to read and write; and considerable experience in custodial work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require working in non-climate controlled environments and/or grounds maintenance duties. A Valid Louisiana Driver’s license is required for some positions.
