APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INTERNET APPLICATIONS

 

Only U.S. citizens and non-citizens authorized to work in the United States by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service are eligible for employment by the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The deadline may be found at the top of the front of the application. Applications will not be accepted after the posted deadline. Applications must also include an original signature. Residents who live in the Lafayette area must turn-in their applications at the Civil Service office. If you live outside the Lafayette area, a copy of the required information must accompany the application before it is accepted.

In order for an application to be accepted, the following items are required at the time the application is turned in.
 
  • Proof that the applicant is 18 years of age or older and has permission to work in the United States issued by the Department of State if not a citizen, and has submitted to the Civil Service Office the prescribed completed employment forms of the aforementioned, prior to the deadline for applications.
  • Proof of a social security number. If you do not have your SS card, an official document with number printed on it will be accepted. (Ex: W-2, pay stub, etc.)

    The following item may be turned in at any time before the test is given.

  • Proof of veteran status; DD214. You must show proof of having served 90 consecutive days of active duty and show proof that you were honorably discharged. Any one showing proof will be awarded five points to a passing grade.
  • Deadlines are strictly enforced, your application form with items 1 and 2 listed above must be submitted to the Civil Service Office before both date/time and maximum number of applications stated on the ad or announcement of the vacancy.

Position is responsible for the SKILLED operation of a GRADALL, Dozer, Excavator, Backhoe, Tandem Dump Truck and other heavy equipment used in maintenance, repair, and construction of large complex drainage projects. Applicants must be able to independently operate the equipment. Work of this class is distinguished from that of Equipment Operator III by the type of equipment operated, the skill level required by the job assignment, and the frequency of operation of the assigned equipment. Graduation from high school and experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment similar to those types listed herein, including experience in precision work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Apprenticeship may be required. Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrake, combination and/or tanker endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with endorsements, prior to hire required.

PROGRAMS & MAINTENANCE MANAGER$31.50-$39.38/Hour/DOE Parks & Recreation
Incumbent oversees a large municipal public athletics program, including the development, implementation, and supervision of all programs; also responsible for the management of maintenance of all parks, tennis courts, swimming pools, and athletic fields. Work is primarily managerial, policy making, and public contact in nature. Prepares annual budget for all athletic and therapeutic programs and the parks maintenance section and is responsible for the monitoring and approving of expenses. Meets with consultants, architects and engineers to review plans and progress on capital projects. Inspects work done by contractors or in-house staff. Bachelor’s degree in a recreation, physical education, business administration or related field, considerable experience organizing athletic programs and substantial experience in budgeting, planning construction projects, buildings and grounds maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. SPECIAL NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Note that your application will be closely reviewed to determine whether you meet these special necessary qualifications; therefore, be sure to mention where in your experience those skills are reflected. If you do not have these qualifications, your application will be rejected: 1. Progressively responsible work experience, including supervisory experience, in sports management, recreation, physical education, or a related area is required. 2. Experience must include the planning and administration of a comprehensive recreation program and the supervision of personnel engaged in that program. 3. Experience must also include budget preparation and administration (including authorizing expenditures), facilities and grounds maintenance, and some familiarity with capital project oversight. Position performs basic tasks of the Information Services and Technology department, which includes analyzing business processes, proposing computer applications to automate, designing input screens, writing code as required, testing applications under development, implementing and troubleshooting applications, training users, and maintaining and documenting applications. Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences, course work in application development, and experience in computer application development, or an equivalent combination of training and experience are desired. Note: Positions in the classification are assigned to an apprentice period and must demonstrate proficiency in Visual Studio, C#, ASP.NET and SQL within 2 years of hire in order to continue employment. Power Plant Control Systems Technician$24.81-$31.02/Hour/DOELUS
Positions in this classification are responsible for troubleshooting, compliance testing support, system administration, and software maintenance tasks of the plant controls systems, including Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) units, various Allen Bradley balance of plant controls, and MkVIe turbine control systems at both electric generating stations of Lafayette Utilities System. Work is potentially dangerous and position is subject to 24-hour call. Associates degree in Computer Programming, Networking, or Process Control Technology, at least 3 years of progressively responsible experience as an ICE Technician (or equivalent position) in a heavy industrial process plant, ISA Certified Control System Technician, completion of the Power Plant Maintenance Technician Training Program, including at least 120 hours of formal control system programming and training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Electrical Engineering Aide Specialist I$21.58-$26.98/Hour/DOE LUS- Eng Adm
Positions in this class perform non-routine technical work on electrical engineering projects, with responsibility for applying theory and principles of electrical engineering toward projects such as compiling/computing a variety of engineering data, analyzing data and preparing reports, and/or developing/preparing/making recommendations regarding schematics, designs, specifications, parts lists, etc. Designs overhead and/or underground electrical systems, including line design and similar systems. Supervises and inspects construction/installation of designed electrical jobs for compliance with LUS policies and take corrective action if needed. Work involves considerable public interaction concerning projects which directly affect them. Associate’s Degree or completion of a technical specialty program of eighteen months – three years duration in electrical engineering (or closely related field) and significant prior working experience in the electrical engineering field incorporating the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the specific position. Positions in this class are responsible for assisting customers, in person or by telephone, with obtaining Building, Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical, and other permits. Incumbents work with substantial independence in all but the most unusual tasks. Positions are non-supervisory and report to the Permit Manager. Current opening has a focus on the issuance of business and occupational permits including but not limited to peddler, itinerant vendor, and mobile vendor permits, outdoor dining permits, insurance company license renewals, and certificates of occupancy. Incumbent will be required to perform field work in order to ensure that all individuals engaged in the associated activities are doing so in compliance with the relevant ordinances, and a valid Louisiana driver’s license is required for this position prior to start. However, future vacancies my not require a driver’s license, depending on area of assignment. Completed high school with substantial experience in the building, development, and/or customer service industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience desired.
