APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INTERNET APPLICATIONS

 

Only U.S. citizens and non-citizens authorized to work in the United States by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service are eligible for employment by the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The deadline may be found at the top of the front of the application. Applications will not be accepted after the posted deadline. Applications must also include an original signature. Residents who live in the Lafayette area must turn-in their applications at the Civil Service office. If you live outside the Lafayette area, a copy of the required information must accompany the application before it is accepted.

In order for an application to be accepted, the following items are required at the time the application is turned in.
 
  • Proof that the applicant is 18 years of age or older and has permission to work in the United States issued by the Department of State if not a citizen, and has submitted to the Civil Service Office the prescribed completed employment forms of the aforementioned, prior to the deadline for applications.
  • Proof of a social security number. If you do not have your SS card, an official document with number printed on it will be accepted. (Ex: W-2, pay stub, etc.)

    The following item may be turned in at any time before the test is given.

  • Proof of veteran status; DD214. You must show proof of having served 90 consecutive days of active duty and show proof that you were honorably discharged. Any one showing proof will be awarded five points to a passing grade.
  • Deadlines are strictly enforced, your application form with items 1 and 2 listed above must be submitted to the Civil Service Office before both date/time and maximum number of applications stated on the ad or announcement of the vacancy.

Position is responsible for skilled independent work in installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground power lines and related components of the city-parish electrical transmission and distribution system. Position is subject to 24-hour call and work is sometimes hazardous. Graduation from high school supplemented by courses in basic electricity, and experience as a Lineman II; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Must show proof of having passed the written portion of the CDL to apply. A pole climbing performance test will be conducted. Louisiana Class A CDL with Air Brake and Combination endorsements within 14-days of hire required. Accepting the first 15 completed applications until Friday, May 8, 2015, at noon, or until filled.

Programmer Analyst (Network Engineering)$23.83-$29.79/hour/DOE $4,130-$5,163/month/DOELafayette Utilities
Position is responsible for defining problems in computer applications and developing and testing possible solutions. Also responsible for identifying data elements, program logic, and equipment requirements for each step in the development of an application. Must have knowledge of inter-application communications methods such as API.s implemented via SOAP and JSON and application development tools such as .NET, ASP, NET, JavaScript, C#, and PHP. Knowledge of databases such as Microsoft SQL Server and MYSQL. Experience with Linux operating systems desirable. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and experience in computer programming and application design; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Equipment Operator IV (Motor Grader)$14.52-$18.15/hour/DOEPublic Works
Position is primarily responsible for the SKILLED operation of a Motor Grader.  Depending on area of assignment, may also operate other heavy equipment. Applicants must be able to independently operate the equipment. Work of this class is distinguished from that of Equipment Operator III by the type of equipment operated, the skill level required by the job assignment, and the frequency of operation of the assigned equipment. Graduation from high school and experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment similar to those types listed herein, including some experience in precision work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrake and combination endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with endorsements, prior to hire required. NATURALIST$12.74-$15.92/hour/DOE Community Development
Position requires conducting natural sciences educational programs for school groups at a nature station and its surroundings. Purpose of work is to increase understanding and appreciation of interrelationships and interdependences in the natural environment and to relay this information to the general public. Incumbent works under the general direction of the Curator of Natural Science and has no formal supervisory responsibilities but may serve as a lead worker in the absence of the curator. Position requires the completion of a four year college curriculum in natural sciences such as biology, zoology, botany or related fields and experience in elementary natural science education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. CEMENT MASON$12.86-$16.08/hour/DOEPublic Works
This is skilled work involved in the construction, reconstruction and repair of concrete and masonry structures, and related activities used in the construction of catch basins. Graduation from high school and some experience in the general repair or maintenance of concrete and masonry structures; or completion of a recognized apprenticeship which would indicate possession of the requirements necessary to satisfactory perform this work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Valid driver’s license required to apply. Performance test will be conducted and applicants are expected to demonstrate skills in concrete and masonry work. Possession of a valid Louisiana Chauffeur’s License, prior to appointment required. Accepting the first 15 completed applications until Friday, July 1, 2016, at noon.

SERVICE STATION ATTENDANT$9.76-$12.20/hour/DOE Public Works
Responsible for the non-mechanical servicing of vehicles, including changing oil, greasing, servicing batteries, changing tires and other related duties. Experience servicing automotive equipment is strongly desired. Hours are from 11:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M, Monday through Friday or 7:00 A.M to 3:30 P.M., Monday through Friday, depending on position available at time of hire. Valid driver’s license required to apply. Possession of a valid Louisiana Driver’s License upon appointment required. Positions in this class perform maintenance and repair of Lafayette Consolidated Government buildings and auxiliary structures, and repair and maintenance of a variety of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical equipment. May repair parking meters and related equipment. Graduation from high school and experience in the building, electrical, and mechanical trades; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Background checks may be required. EQUIPMENT OPERATOR IV- Wastewater Collection$14.52-$18.15/hour/DOE LUS
Work of this class involves the operation of a backhoe, dump truck, vacuum flusher truck, and other heavy equipment used in the wastewater collection department. Completion of the eighth grade, experience in the operation of automotive and construction equipment similar to those described herein, or any equivalent combination of training and experience is desired. Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrake, combination and tanker endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with endorsements, prior to hire required.
