Lafayette City-Parish Council District 3

Brandon Shelvin, Council Member
(337) 291-8803

Brandon Shelvin was born in Lafayette and reared not far from the downtown district in an area known as “Fightinville.” He attended Holy Family Catholic School, J.W. Faulk, St. Antoine Elementary and Lafayette Middle School.  As a young man, he and his mother moved to Delcambre where he was a student at Delcambre High School and graduated in 1995 at the top of his class with honors.

Following graduation, he went to LSU where he pursued studies in microbiology and pre-med, and moved back to Lafayette after the completion of three semesters.

He holds himself as an example to young adults to prove that the pursuit of one’s education is never too late. After a 17 year hiatus, Shelvin would return to college where he attained a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He graduated cum laude in general studies with a concentration in political science and criminal justice.

When entering politics in 2007, Brandon was the youngest member of the Lafayette City-Parish Council at age 29. With the trust of his peers, he was elected to hold the prestigious title of Chairman of the Council in 2013.

Shelvin is serving his second term as City-Parish Councilman in Lafayette Consolidated Government as the elected representative of District 3.
