Brandon Shelvin is the youngest member of the Lafayette City-Parish Council, and is the youngest ever to be elected to the consolidated council. Born the son of the late Alton “Tony” Chaisson and Dory Armour, Brandon was born and raised in the district he currently represents, for the vast majority of his upbringing.

As a young child he attended the Holy Family Catholic School, J.W. Faulk, St. Antoine Elementary, and Lafayette Middle School. From Lafayette Middle he went on to Delcambre High School to graduate in the top of his class with honors. After graduation, Brandon continued on to Louisiana State University (LSU) to pursue an education in Microbiology, and then went on to complete the J.M. & A School of Finance and Insurance.

As a community leader, Shelvin is an active member of First United Full Gospel Assembly, and played an integral role in the building of the church’s current multi-facet facility. Shelvin attributes his current role as a mentor in countless organizations to his early childhood exposure to the Boys & Girls club here in Lafayette. He has served on the Lafayette Consolidated Government Parks & Recreations Commission as the Chairman of Adult Programs/Centers Committee; Publicity Committee Member and also Neighborhood Relations Committee Member.

He also served on the Board of Directors for the Lafayette Chapter of the NAACP as the youth and young adult chairman and liaison between Lafayette’s chapter and the U.L.L. chapter. He is an avid supporter of the Lafayette Association for Retarded Citizens (LARC), and has served on numerous advisory boards.

In addition to his civic leadership, professionally he is the managing – partner of Thrifty Way Car Sales and owner of The Pink Power Training Center.

Shelvin attributes his youthful success to being mindful of where he comes from, and having a clear outlook on where he intends to go. He brings to any leadership position he serves, new ideas, needed change, a passion to serve, and a heart for the people. His closing words are often “If you always do what you’ve always did, you’ll always get what you’ve always got, but in order to get something you’ve never had, you’ll have to do something you’ve never done;” what he sums up to mean “THERE IS NOTHING TOO HARD FOR GOD.”
