Mardi Gras Events/Parades (LCVC)
2012 Public Works Mardi Gras Schedule
With Mardi Gras activities beginning within the week, the Lafayette Consolidated Government Public Works Department will be preparing for parades and other activities. Below is a work schedule:
- Thursday, February 9th – 8:00 a.m. – Place barricades along the “Downtown route” beginning at Jefferson St./ Simcoe St. and ending at Vermilion St./ Johnston St.
- Friday, February 10th – 8:00 a.m. – Place barricades along Johnston St., beginning at Vermilion St., turn on N. College (Albertson’s Shopping Center) (called the “Johnston Street/N. College parade route”) and head to UL entrance at Reinhardt Drive. Turn lanes at major intersections along Johnston Street will allow traffic to cross over.
- Saturday, February 11th – 6:30 p.m. – Crews move barricades to the sides/shoulders of the roads and clean up litter/debris.
- Thursday, February 16th – 8:00 a.m. – Place barricades from the roadway shoulders back along the “Downtown parade route”.
- Friday, February 17th – 8:00 a.m. – Place barricades from the roadway shoulders back along the “Johnston Street/N. College parade route”.
- Saturday, February 18th – 6:30 pm. – Crews clean up litter/debris along the parade route, barricades stay in place.
- Tuesday, February 21st – (Mardi Gras Day) – 2:00 p.m. – Crews move barricades to the sides and shoulders of the roads.
- Tuesday, February 21st – 11:00 p.m. until complete – Crews clean up litter/debris along the parade route and adjacent areas.
- Wednesday, February 22nd – No work for Operations, Streets/Drainage Crews
- Thursday, February 23th and Friday, February 24th – 7:00 a.m. – Pick up barricades and return to the PW Yard; place needed barricades along the Black History Parade route.

- The parade route is 3.9 miles long
- Public Works utilizes approximately 5500 barricades
- 121 portable toilets are used
- Seven (7) 30 yd roll-offs which are emptied as needed are also utilized.
