UPDATE: Numbers Release on OWI Checkpoint

During the course of the operation 929 vehicles passed through the checkpoint located in the 1900 block of Johnston Street. Of those vehicles 20 drivers were stopped for secondary testing. A total of 4 drivers were arrested and charged with OWI. One Driver was arrested for Possession of Marijuana and one driver was arrest for an outstanding warrant. In addition, officers and deputies issued 39 citations for various violations and towed one vehicle for no insurance. Below is a list of those individuals arrested:
• Shane Daly (32) - OWI 1st
• Anthony Guidry (38) – OWI 1st
• Nicholas Mouton (22) – OWI 1st
• Gregory Koury (40) – OWI 1st

On Saturday, July 24, 2010, between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., the Lafayette Police Department and the Lafayette Sheriff’s Office will be conducting an OWI Checkpoint within the incorporated limits of Lafayette. The purpose of the checkpoint is to target impaired drivers under the influence of alcohol or any other dangerous substance. Officers working the checkpoint will respond with zero tolerance to those drivers found to be under the influence. Designate a driver if you intend to drink, by not doing so, could result in costly fines and serious jail time.
