Detectives Investigate 2 Robberies Near McKinley

The Lafayette Police Department is investigating two robberies that occurred 30 minutes apart near McKinley Street during the early morning hours of August 19, 2010. At approximately 2:06 am, a female victim (18) was walking in the 200 block of Brainard Avenue when she was approached by a black male. The suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded her purse. The suspect grabbed the victim’s purse and fled the area in a silver Chevrolet Malibu.

At approximately 2:37 am, a female victim (21) was walking in the 1500 block of Jefferson Street to her nearby apartment when a black male approached her. The suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded her possessions. The victim turned over a cell phone and the suspect fled the area.

The suspect in both instances is described as a black male in his 20’s or 30’s, 5’8”, thin build and wearing a black muscle shirt with baggy jeans. The suspect is believed to have fled the area in a silver Chevrolet Malibu.
