Crash Leaves Two Pedestrians in Serious Condition

On July 30, 2010, at approximately 9:50 pm, officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to the intersection of Bertrand Drive and Eraste Landry Road regarding a crash involving two pedestrians. The preliminary investigation by traffic investigators indicates that a 62 year old male patient of a nearby nursing home had exited the property and entered the southbound lane of Bertrand Drive. A 28 year old male employee of the nursing home pursued the patient and was attempting to exit the roadway when both men were struck by a Toyota Corolla traveling on Bertrand Drive.

The 62 year old male was transported to an area hospital and is listed in stable condition. The 28 year old male was transported to an area hospital and is listed in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle was not injured and no citations have been issued at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department Traffic Section.
