Arrest Made in Morning Robbery
On June 29, 2010, at approximately 10:30 am, officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to 1001 Kaliste Saloom Road regarding a robbery. When officers arrived on the scene they were advised by the clerk that the suspect entered the store and asked to utilize the restroom. When the suspect exited the restroom he then walked behind the counter and directed the clerk’s attention to his pants pocket, implying he was armed. The clerk was forced to open the register and turn over an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then had the clerk open a second register where additional cash was taken. The victim was then ordered to get the keys to her vehicle and the suspect attempted to force the victim outside. As they approached the front doors to the business, the victim began to scream and the suspect fled on foot.
Responding officers searching the area located the suspect in the 100 block of Palmer. The suspect, Jerry Hayes (25) of Lafayette, was arrested and charged with First Degree Robbery and Attempted Second Degree Kidnapping. The case remains under investigation.
