Precinct 3 encompasses City Council Districts 7, 8, and 9. Geographically, it is roughly bordered on the north by Johnston Street down South College Road to Girard Park drive. This extends to the Vermillion River at the airport. The east boundary is south of the airport down the Evangeline Thruway (Highway 90). It is bordered to the south by the city limits and to the west also by the city limits.

Precinct 3 is primarily residential and light retail commercial. Industrial businesses are primarily found in the most southern parts of the district. This area of the city is the fastest growing of new residential, retail and restaurants. It has the highest property values found in the city limits. There are two major hospitals in the district; Lafayette General Medical Center and Woman’s and Children’s Hospital. The Vermillion River running from northeast to southwest through the district splits the district almost evenly geographically. There are three bridges crossing the river in the district, equidistance from each other. The busiest intersections in the city by volume of traffic are located in Precinct 3; Ambassador Caffery and Johnston, and Ambassador Caffery and Kaliste Saloom.
