Major Ned Ewing
Services Division Commander

Major Ewing joined the Lafayette Police Department in October of 1981 serving 3 years in the Patrol Division. He would then be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division where he spent the next 6 years as a detective working both property crimes and crimes against person’s cases. As a Criminal Investigator, Major Ewing received the prestigious “100 Club” Award for leading a Task Force investigating a multi-state auto theft and insurance fraud ring believed to have been the largest in state history. That case lead to the recovery of 28 high end automobiles stolen from new car dealerships and the indictments of an elected official and several state employees within the Department of Motor Vehicles. Major Ewing would then become the Public Information Officer for the Lafayette Police Department before being promoted to the rank of Sergeant and transferring to the Crime Stoppers Unit, serving an additional 10 years. In 2005 he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Technical Services Section of the Services Division. In March of 2006, Major Ewing was promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned as the Precinct Commander in Precinct 3. In July of that same year he assumed the position of Assistant to the Chief of Police, where he has remained until September of 2012. Major Ewing was promoted to his current rank in October of 2012 and is currently the Lafayette Police Department’s Services Commander.

 

Major Terry Head

Patrol Division Commander
Major Terry Head is a life long resident of Lafayette and began his career with the Lafayette Police Department in 1980. During the course of his employment he has attended numerous seminars to include: Advanced Motorcycle Operator’s School, Diversity Training, NIMS, and the prestigious LSU Command College in 2007. Departmental assignments include Patrol Officer, ATAC Officer and Traffic Officer. Major Head has supervised in the following sections: Patrol, ATAC Sergeant, Shift Lieutenant, Patrol Shift Captain, and Assistant to the Patrol Major. Upon his promotion to the rank of Major he was assigned as the Services Division Commander. In September of 2012 he became the Patrol Division Commander.

 

Major Randy Vincent
Criminal Investigations Division Commander
Major Randy Vincent began his career with the Lafayette Police Department in September of 1981. He worked in the capacity of a patrolman until August of 1985, at which time he was assigned to Criminal Investigations Division (CID). While in CID he worked as a Property Investigator and as a Crimes Against Persons Investigator. In April of 1993, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and transferred to the District Attorney’s Office as Liaison Investigator and Supervisor of the Career Criminal Unit. In March of 2004 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to the Patrol Division. In February of 2005, he transferred to the Services Division and was assigned as the Technical Section Lieutenant. In January of 2006 he was promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned as a shift commander in the Patrol Division. In November of 2006 he was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division as the Sections Captain where he has served until his promotion to Major. Upon his promotion Major Vincent served as the Patrol Division Commander, the largest division within the Lafayette Police Department, until March of 2012. He is currently the Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division.
