UPDATE: Pedestrian in Critical Condition After being Struck by a Train

​Lafayette, LA – Yesterday evening the pedestrian who was struck by the train died from his injuries. The victim is identified as Mckensey J. Portalis (59) of Lafayette. The investigation remains ongoing.

Lafayette, LA – On December 9, 2013, at approximately 12:30 pm, Lafayette Police responded to the railroad crossing at North Loop regarding a pedestrian being struck by a train. The pedestrian, a 59 year old male of Lafayette, was attempting to cross the railroad tracks northward, when he was struck by an Amtrak train traveling west. The impact of the train threw the pedestrian approximately 50 feet. Witnesses stated that all of the warning devices at the crossing appeared to be operating correctly at the time of the crash. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. There were no injuries on the train. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
