Suspect Arrested in Connection with Two Overnight Robberies
 

​Lafayette, LA – On December 20, 2013, at approximately 11:20 pm, Lafayette Police responded to an armed robbery at 1303 North University Ave. The clerk inside of the convenience store told police that a black male suspect entered the business with his face covered, armed with a handgun and wearing all black.  The suspect immediately demanded all of the money from the register and then quickly fled in an unknown direction.  There were no injuries inside of the store during the robbery.

At approximately 11:50 pm, Lafayette Police received information about a suspicious suspect near a convenience store at 2103 NW Evangeline Thruway.  The complainant advised police he believed the suspect was preparing to rob the business. Officers responded to the scene and viewed surveillance video.  The video captured the suspect with his face concealed, armed with a weapon and preparing to enter the business.  The suspect never entered the business, but instead fled the area in a green SUV.

Officers responding to the scene observed the suspect’s vehicle in a nearby neighborhood.  When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect accelerated in a westward direction on Martin Luther King Dr.  The suspect vehicle crashed in the 100 block of Martin Luther King Drive and two suspects fled from the vehicle towards I-10.  Both suspects were apprehended and transported to the Lafayette Police Department for questioning.

Lafayette Police charged Johnua Riggs (20) of Lafayette was charged with Armed Robbery and Attempted Armed RobberyJammie Roberts (24) of Arnaudville was charged with Principal to Armed Robbery and Principal to Attempted Armed Robbery. The case remains under investigation.
