Lafayette, LA – On March 18, 2014, the Lafayette Police Department was recognized at a ceremony in Baton Rouge by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission for OWI enforcement. The Police Department was presented an award for the total OWI arrest in 2013. The department arrested a total of 869 suspected impaired drivers. Corporal Tommy Aphaiyarath , a member of the Lafayette Police Department’s ATAC (Alcohol Traffic Action Campaign) Section, was recognized for his 216 OWI arrest by an individual officer.
With the assistance from a grant provided by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, the Lafayette Police Department continues to lead the state in removing impaired drivers from the roadway.
