Lafayette, LA – On April 13, 2014, at approximately 5:30 am, Lafayette Police responded to the 700 block of Jefferson Street regarding a stabbing. The victim advised that he was exiting his apartment when the suspect allegedly forced his way inside with a knife. The suspect attempted to stab the victim, at which time the victim armed himself with a lamp to fight off the suspect. The victim received multiple lacerations to the neck and hands. The suspect, Fredrick Benton (56) of Lafayette, suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung. The suspect was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released. Benton was arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for Attempted 2nd Degree Murder. The investigation remains ongoing.
