UPDATE: Disturbance Leads to Shooting on South Sterling

Lafayette, LA – On May 14, 2014, Lafayette Police were dispatched to the 200 block of South Sterling regarding a residential burglary.  When officers arrived on the scene, three suspects were located near a broken window adjacent to the victim’s residence.  The suspects fled on foot, but two suspects were arrested a short time later by police. Gene Celestine was arrested and charged with an active warrant on 2 counts of Principal to Attempted 2nd Degree Murder.  He was also charged with Unauthorized Entry into an Inhabited Dwelling and Resisting an Officer for the incident on South Sterling.   The second suspect arrested on South Sterling was identified as Cordero Bradley (20) of Lafayette.   Bradley was charged with Unauthorized Entry into an Inhabited Dwelling.  Investigators continue to attempt to identify the third suspects involved.
In addition to the above charges, Celestine was arrested on an unrelated warrant for Attempted 1st Degree Murder.  The charge stems from an incident that occurred on April 28, 2014, at approximately 11:50 pm, when Celestine and two other male suspects kidnapped a victim in his vehicle in the 1300 block of East Pinhook Road.  The suspects forced the victim to drive the vehicle onto St. Charles Street.   Once on St. Charles Street the suspects allegedly stole the victim’s property and then exited the vehicle.  Celestine is believed to have shot the victim in the leg after exiting the vehicle. The victim was transported that night to an area hospital with a non-life threating injury.  Detectives are attempting to identify the two other male suspects involved in the incident.
