Suspect Arrested in Morning Homicide

Lafayette, LA – On June 3, 2016, at approximately 5:30 am, Lafayette Police responded to a shooting in the 300 block of Josephine Street.  When officers arrived on the scene, the 32 year old male victim, Dextel George, was inside of the residence with a single gunshot wound to the side.  George was transported to an area hospital where he later died.  According to investigators, George and a friend arrived home to discover the suspect inside of their residence.  An argument between George and the suspect began when George requested that the suspect leave.  During the argument the suspect produced a pistol and shot George once in the side.  The suspect fled the area on foot.

Investigators were able to identify the suspect as Terrell Batiste (36) of Lafayette.  Warrants for 2nd Degree Murder and Felon in Possession of a Firearm were secured for Batiste’s arrest.  Batiste was located at approximately 9:45 am at his mother’s residence on Pearl Street and taken into custody.  He would later be booked into LPCC on the warrants.  The investigation remains ongoing.
