Suspect Arrested in Armed Robbery

Lafayette, LA – On July 22, 2016, at approximately 11:00 pm, Lafayette Police responded to an armed robbery at a convenient store, located at 2444 West Congress Street.  According to the clerk, the suspect entered the business carrying a pistol and wearing all black.  The suspect demanded all of the cash in the register and then fled the store on foot. The clerk was not injured during the robbery.

As officers arriving in the area, they immediately began searching for the suspect.  The suspect was found in a nearby apartment complex hiding near several parked vehicles.  After the suspect refused to comply with officers commands, he was apprehended by a Lafayette Police Department K-9.  The suspect, Deaontrae Sampson (23) of Lafayette, was charged with Armed Robbery, Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Resisting an Officer Violently.   Sampson was found to be in possession of a stolen firearm and the stolen money.  The investigation remains ongoing.
