Lafayette Comprehensive Plan Launches Website-Engages Public

LAFAYETTE, La, April 4, 2013-Lafayette Consolidated Government and the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce announced a new website today,, providing citizens of Lafayette a peek at the progress of the Lafayette Comprehensive Plan planning phase and offering citizens an opportunity to engage.

By visiting, citizens can learn about the Lafayette Comprehensive Plan and view alternative growth plans for the city and parish as well as the results of Forum Series Two public meetings that shaped those options. They can also review frequently asked questions and sign up to actively receive information about the Lafayette Comprehensive Plan. Flyers are available for download, allowing individuals to spread the word about the importance of attending Forum Three, the next public meeting in the series. Citizens are also encouraged through the site to engage in grassroots efforts encouraging support of the Comprehensive Plan process. A one page “how-to” provides helpful tips to get involve and encourage friends and neighbors to do the same.
As an exciting way to introduce the website URL to the public, a Plan Lafayette art installation is in place on a brick wall at the Arts Co-op building adjacent to the public library. People are encouraged to help get the word out by snapping a picture at the spot and posting it to The social media site provides an interactive forum for citizens to support the campaign. Art Walk, held on April 13 is the perfect day to stop by and take a picture.
Community Comprehensive Plan Forum Series Three of the effort to shape Lafayette will be held on Tuesday, May 14, from 4-8 PM at the Rosa Parks Transportation Center, 101 Jefferson Street, and again on Wednesday, May 15th from 11 AM-3 PM at the Heymann Performing Arts Center, 1373 S. College Road. The Open House style forum will allow attendees to review information at their own pace and vote on their growth scenario of choice. Staff and committee members will be available throughout the forum to answer questions. The public is encouraged to attend and lend their opinion to this important project.

The Comprehensive Plan Citizens Advisory Committee (CPCAC) includes 32 community members and leaders - representation from the City-Parish Planning Commission, the LINC Citizen Committee members, neighborhood, civic, and cultural organizations, and business owners. CPCAC meets on a regular basis to discuss issues, advise the LCG planning team and consultant team, promote citizen engagement, provide feedback, and help guide the planning effort.
