Lafayette Comprehensive Plan Forum Goes Viral
Posted: 5/8/2013 4:20 PM

The Lafayette Comprehensive Plan Forum Series Three is taking place on Tuesday, May 14, from 4-8 PM at the Rosa Parks Transportation Center, 101 Jefferson Street, and again on Wednesday, May 15th from 11 AM-3 PM at the Heymann Performing Arts Center, 1373 S. College Road.   The Open House style forums will allow attendees to review information at their own pace, and staff members will be available throughout the forum to answer questions.  The public is encouraged to attend and lend their opinion to this important project.   The tremendous task facing organizers is getting the word out to the community, ensuring that everyone in Lafayette knows of the opportunity to attend one of the forums and vote on the growth scenario of their choice.
Determined to expand outreach, organizers have turned to social media to spread the message, and the campaign is proving successful.  Bright orange “I’m shaping Lafayette” signs and stickers are popping up all around town, and creating quite a buzz.  Now, everyone wants a chance to snap their picture with the recognizable sign and share with friends their plans to participate in the forums.  As a result, the Lafayette Comprehensive Plan Facebook page has seen a spike in followers as people turn to the page to show their support or learn more about the scenarios, and the campaign is picking up viral steam as pictures are reposted and shared. The Comprehensive Plan is issuing a challenge to everyone:  Like them on Facebook, follow on Twitter @LafCompPlan, and above all—be sure to attend the forum and make your pick to help shape Lafayette.
“Public participation is vital to the success of the Comprehensive Plan, and we are using every tool at our disposal to get the word out about the forums.  We look to all of the citizens of Lafayette to spread the message that attendance is important. ” says Kevin Blanchard, Chairperson of the Lafayette Comprehensive Plan Citizens Advisory Committee.
