DOTD Work Lowers Water at Camellia Ponds
Posted: 5/2/2017 4:00 PM

Beginning Monday, May 8, 2017, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will begin conducting work on the detention pond located along Camellia Boulevard near Cornelius Drive, resulting in the water level to be lowered.

The drainage work is related to DOTD's Verot School Road Widening Project.

"As people see the water level in the pond drop, we want them to know that there is no reason for concern and that this is an intentional, temporary situation for the pond," stated Lafayette Mayor-President Joel Robideaux.

The water will be lowered using pumps which will remain on site to maintain the needed elevation. During this time, certain areas around the detention pond may have limited access. This work is estimated to take place for approximately four weeks. DOTD apologizes for any inconvenience to the public.

The Verot School widening project will convert a 3.19-mile section on the mostly two-lane road to four lanes with a median from Vincent Road to Pinhook Road. Work began in November 2015 and is estimated for completion February 2018.
