Open House Invites Public Participation in Evangeline Corridor Planning
Posted: 6/7/2017 2:00 PM

The Evangeline Corridor Initiative (ECI) will host an Open House on Thursday, June 8 which will offer the public an opportunity to review proposed catalyst projects.

Some of Lafayette's oldest neighborhoods along the Evangeline Thruway are facing changes as the future I-49 Connector is being planned and built. The work of the ECI supports revitalization of the neighborhoods along the corridor in collaboration with the residents and business owners. Those who know the area best – the people who live and work there – have suggested and helped prioritize improvements along the corridor. Through this public input, ECI has identified catalyst projects which have the potential to revitalize the area and spark investment.

As planning for the Evangeline Corridor neighborhood revitalization nears completion, members of the public are invited to see proposed improvement plans and projects at an Open House-style event on Thursday, June 8 at Rosa Parks Transportation Center, located at 101 Jefferson St. Between 4 and 8 p.m. attendees can preview the planning work and District Design Manuals, in addition to information about proposed catalyst projects. A 6-by-9 foot map will also be available as a visual aid to show potential locations of the catalyst projects.

In recent weeks, community members have held meetings using a kit called a “Meeting in a Box,” to help evaluate catalyst projects to enhance the quality of life for people who live and work in the Evangeline Corridor.

“With 27 Meetings in a Box completed to date, over 225 community members participated in the latest phase of planning. Now, we need final input from residents and business owners to complete the planning process for neighborhoods along each side of the Corridor path,” said Carlee Alm-LaBar, LCG Director of Planning, Zoning, and Development.
