Waste schedule for the New Year holiday
Posted: 1/1/2014 3:00 PM

There will be changes to the residential waste collection schedule for the week of New Year’s Day for customers served by Allied Waste and the Recycling Foundation in Lafayette Parish.

Allied Waste and the Recycling Foundation will observe the New Year holiday, so there will be no garbage or recycling collection on Wednesday.  Customers who regularly receive garbage and recycling collection on Wednesday through Friday will receive collection service on the day following their regularly scheduled collection day during the week of New Year’s Day.  The adjusted schedule includes regular Friday customers receiving garbage and recycling collection on Saturday, Jan. 4.

All customers served by Allied Waste will receive excess garbage collection, resulting from holiday celebrations, on their first service day following New Year’s Day.  Monday and Tuesday customers receive excess collection on Jan. 6 and 7.

Once the large blue automated garbage cart is full, residents may bag garbage and place it on the ground along with large boxes three feet from the cart.  Large boxes should be empty except for the original packaging material.

The Lafayette Consolidated Government Compost Facility at 400 Dugas Rd. will be closed on New Year’s Day and will reopen on Thursday.

Natural Christmas trees should be totally cleaned of all lights, tinsel, and ornaments and placed curbside for collection.  Natural Christmas trees will be collected on residents’ regular yard waste collection day, which is also residents’ regular garbage collection day.

Any Lafayette Parish resident may drop off a totally cleaned natural Christmas tree at the LCG Compost Facility at no charge.

Retail businesses may drop unsold Christmas trees at the compost facility at the cost of $6 per cubic yard.

Following the New Year’s waste collection schedule, an artificial Christmas tree will be considered bulky waste. Residents should place artificial trees out on the week of the month for which they have bulky waste collection. Anybody needing assistance determining which week of each month they are scheduled for bulky waste collection should call LCG’s Environmental Quality Division at 291-8529.
