Lafayette Consolidated Government and PlanLafayette announce ArtWalk event sponsored by the705

LAFAYETTE, La, January 23, 2014—Earlier this month, Lafayette Consolidated Government announced the scheduling of PlanLafayette Week during February and the simultaneous release of the draft comprehensive plan.

The draft plan will be organized into four “big ideas.”  The events that comprise PlanLafayette Week will expose the concepts in the draft document to the public, as well as educate the public about the action items recommended within the four big ideas.

PlanLafayette organizers have teamed with the705 to host an ArtWalk event on Saturday, February 8 at the Lafayette Science Museum.   The event will serve as a preview to the PlanLafayette forums scheduled for February 11 and 12.  In addition, the705 will highlight their new ReCover Acadiana initiative which is the organization’s effort to combat blight in the region.

“As the organization for young leaders in Acadiana, we felt it was so important for the705 to have an important role in PlanLafayette week and the unveiling of the comprehensive plan.  The recommendations that are in the plan are all about creating the Lafayette we want to be in twenty years--- for us and for our children.  It is so important for the younger generations to educate themselves on the concepts in the plan, and that is why the705 stepped up to sponsor this event and to help get the word out,” said Brittany Broussard, President of the705.

This event will be held at the Lafayette Science Museum on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in conjunction with ArtWalk.  The event is open to the public and no registration is required.

About the705

Mission

Connecting. Engaging. Leading.

the705 is derived from the first three digits of one thing Acadiana residents all share … our zip code. The name denotes where we’re from while promoting a contemporary look at the community that connects us all. We are the "Young Leaders for a Better Acadiana."

Our renewed mission focuses on connecting, engaging and leading. Everything that we do as an organization must contain at least one of these components, and in fact, most events encompass all simultaneously.  This philosophy was agreed upon by the Board of Directors as the optimal way for the705 to build its membership into a group of successful, emerging leaders.

Who’s invited?

Anyone in Acadiana, age 18-40, is eligible to join as a voting member. The group especially looks for self-motivated people who care about the community enough to get involved and want to have fun doing it.

About the comprehensive plan and PlanLafayette Week

PlanLafayette Week will be a celebration of the draft comprehensive plan and its planning concepts. The public will have an opportunity to give feedback on the draft plan that has been developed after a two year long community-wide effort.

The draft plan will be presented at two events which conclude PlanLafayette week on Tuesday, February 11 at the LITE Center from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday, February 12 at the Acadiana Center for the Arts from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m.

In addition, LCG has partnered with several other community institutions to host activities around the plan’s four big themes: Revitalize Neighborhoods, Reinvent the Hub City, Refine Government, and Reenvision Natural Resources.
