Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) is making preparations for PlanLafayette Week. PlanLafayette Week begins next week and will also be marked by the release of the draft comprehensive plan.
Officials have said that the draft plan will be organized into four “big ideas.” The events that comprise PlanLafayette Week will be structured around educating the public about the action items recommended in those four big ideas.
Leading up to the week, LCG officials will give previews of the four big ideas and some of the bigger action items associated with each element.
The next idea, Refine Government, relates the action items in the plan that address making the best use of tax dollars to build a smarter, more efficient government for all residents of Lafayette Parish.
A preview of some of the key action items includes:
Develop a streamlined, easier to use Unified Development Code
Improve our transportation network for all users by reducing congestion and improving connectivity
Strengthen investment in centers and corridors, including Downtown Lafayette, using innovative strategies such as public-private partnerships
Analyze potential return on investment before spending tax dollars on capital improvements
The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has agreed to partner with LCG on promoting this theme by bringing to Lafayette Chuck Marohn who is recognized nationally as a leader on how communities can grow smarter in a fiscally-responsible manner.
“The Downtown Development Authority is so excited to be a part of bringing Chuck to Lafayette. Chuck is known nationally as one of the strongest conservative voices about how important it is to think differently about spending our infrastructure dollars as a community, as well as the unintended consequences of many of our existing regulations. I think many of the principles he advocates are reflected in our comprehensive plan. The timing is perfect for Chuck to visit and begin to help us understand how we can make wiser spending decisions,” said Nathan Norris, CEO of the Downtown Development Authority.
Chuck will host two lunches on Monday, February 10th on the top floor of the IberiaBank building downtown. Tickets include lunch and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets are available at: http://www.downtownlafayette.org/chuckmarohnluncheon
