The Public is Reminded of the Convenience and Ease of Public Transit

This Thursday, April 25, Lafayette Transit System (LTS) will join with other public transportation systems nationwide to participate in National Get On Board Day. Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the 2019 National Get On Board Day is a day that encourages people to support public transportation and showcases the benefits it brings to communities.

Locally, Lafayette Mayor-President Joel Robideaux has proclaimed April 25, 2019 as “Get on Board Day,” stating “Public transportation is an essential part of a successful community. Lafayette Transit System is working to improve the experience of its riders with modern technology. We hope that our ‘Get on Board Day’ will encourage potential riders to participate in our public transit and experience for themselves this eco-friendly and convenient transportation alternative.”

The public transit awareness campaign also falls during the week of Festival International as locals and visitors alike will hop aboard a city bus for the Festival Shuttle. As has been done each year, complimentary transit services are offered to Festival-goers from Cajun Field to Downtown Lafayette. “Our annual support of Festival International attendees is a great way to introduce or re-introduce the community to Lafayette Transit System,” stated Michael Mitchell, LCG Transit & Parking Manager. The shuttle runs every 15 minutes and offers a safe, convenient option to and from Festival International. While the Festival Shuttle is FREE, there is a $10 parking fee. All information, including parking details and the schedule, can be found at

During Festival and throughout the year, the public is encouraged to utilize LTS as an excellent alternative to single-occupancy vehicles, offering riders a comfortable, stress-free ride while also alleviating traffic and congestion on Lafayette’s roadways. Additionally, public transit offers economic opportunity and powers community growth by driving economic development and revitalizing neighborhoods.

In recent years, LTS has worked to modernize the bus system for riders with real-time bus tracking. This provides riders with up to date information on bur arrival times and ideal routes. LTS has made improvements and enhancements, increasing public interest and participation on city buses by providing user-friendly, technology access for transit riders including free Wi-Fi on buses. More technological improvements are on the way for LTS.
