Harold Arceneaux, City/Parish Council Appointee Arceneaux has been an advocate for citizens with disabilities for 15+ years. He is the host of a radio show twice a month on KJCB radio to discuss issues facing the disabled and has done voluntary work for the Southwest LA Independent Center, City of Lafayette and Helping Hands.
Dr. Bryan Sibley, City/Parish President Appointee Sibley is a practicing physician in Lafayette, where 50% of his work has been devoted to children with special health care needs. He is a Life Care Planning Physician who, with a team of professionals, creates Life Care Plans for children with disabilities. He is past Medical Director of Beacon’s Children Hospital in Houston, a sub-acute care hospital for children who have survived catastrophic illnesses or injury and are not stable enough to return home.
Dr. Ronald Cheek, City/Parish President Appointee, Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Nominee Cheek is the Associate Professor for the Department of Management at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and has distinguished himself both in business and academics.
Nancy Goodwin, Lafayette City/Parish President, The Advocacy Center for the Elderly and Disabled Nominee Goodwin has worked in Lafayette for over 20 years as a paralegal advocate for citizens with disabilities, representing them in claims for public benefits, and is currently employed by the law firm of William J. Ziegler Jr. She is past president of the Lafayette Social Service Agencies Network and received the AIDS LAW pro bono award in 2000 for legal services to people with AIDS.
Bryan Bordelon, UL-Lafayette President Appointee Bordelon is a student at UL-Lafayette.
Steve Jankower, City/Parish Council Appointee, Non-Profit Nominee Jankower is an attorney and previously served as an Assistant City/Parish Attorney. He has been a member of the board of directors of the Lafayette Association of Retarded Citizens since 2002 and is currently the President of the board of Families Helping Families of Acadiana and a member of the Down’s Syndrome Association of Acadiana and the Beaver Club of Acadiana. He is a published author on issues dealing with the disabled and produces a monthly e-newsletter on issues associated with Medicaid planning for families with disabled and special needs.
Carol Glover, City/Parish President, Non-Profit Nominee Glover is the former Consumer Liaison for the Office of Mental Health, where she worked on behalf of mental health consumers in Region IV and represented their interests on various committees and advisory boards to bridge the gap in consumer services with the Office of Mental Health. She has a lifetime of volunteer service, including work with Meaningful Minds of Louisiana, Habitat for Humanity, and the American Red Cross.
The duties of the committee, as defined by the resolution that formed it, are: to develop and channel information regarding disabled persons to the citizens of the community through the introduction of special activities; to work with all aspects of community life so that persons with disabilities will realize the rights and responsibilities afforded to all citizens; to receive recommendations, requests, and citizen complaints regarding problems affecting the disabled; to make advisory recommendations to the Lafayette City/Parish President and the Lafayette City/Parish Council regarding problems faced by the disabled which might be addressed by the Lafayette City/Parish Consolidated Government; to serve as an advisory panel to the Lafayette City/Parish President and the Lafayette City/Parish Council on new activities, legislation and procedures affecting the disabled; and to help increase opportunities for employment for persons with disabilities.
