Director's Biography

Tony Tramel, Director of Traffic and Transportation
(1998 - Present)

Tony Tramel is the first Director of Traffic and Transportation for Lafayette Consolidated Government. He formerly held the position of City Transportation Engineer for the City of Lafayette from 1977 to 1985. After a 15-year hiatus to Texas and Florida, he was convinced to return to start a new Department in August 1998.

Educational Biography:

• Tony has a BS in engineering from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
• He also holds two Masters Degrees, one in Engineering and one in City Planning from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta.

Professional Biography:

• He is a registered professional engineer in Louisiana, Texas, Florida, and Oklahoma.
• He is a fellow of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
• He also holds one of the few Professional Traffic Operations Engineer registrations in Louisiana.
• He has worked for the consulting firms of Hensley-Schmidt, Inc. (now dba as Neel- Schaeffer, Inc.), Parsons Brinckerhoff, Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. and DeShazo, Tang & Associates.
• He was the first Director of Traffic and Transportation Services for the City of Grand Prairie and was an Assistant Director of Transportation for the City of Arlington, Texas.

Family:

He is married to his high school sweetheart where they first met in the 7th grade. He has three daughters. The oldest is the mother of his grandchildren and works in the restaurant business in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. His second daughter graduated from Texas A&M University in Environmental Design and works at Hartshorne + Plunkard Architects in Chicago. His youngest daughter graduated from The University of Texas at Arlington with a microbiology degree and works as a chemist for Miller Brewing in Fort Worth.
