2020 Mardi Gras Information
 

Mardi Gras season is here and preparations are being made for a safe and successful Mardi Gras. Find below a brief summary of Public Works' schedule thru Mardi Gras day as has been done in past years. Please advise businesses along the parade route so they can be informed and plan accordingly.

Thursday, February 13 - 8:00 am - Place barricades at the beginning of the parade route (Downtown area). We begin at Jefferson/Simcoe St. intersection and place along the route to the intersection of Johnston/Vermillion St.

Friday, February 14 - 8:00am - Resume placing barricades from the Johnston/Vermillion St. intersection along Johnston St. to N. College (Albertson shopping center), then along N. College to the Cajun Field entrance at Gate 1 (@ Reinhardt). Barricades will be placed to allow for "turn lanes" and major cross-overs along Johnston St. and N. College.

Saturday, February 15 - 6:30 pm - Public Works crews move the barricades to the sides of the road and clean up litter and debris along the entire parade route.

Thursday, February 20 - 8:00 am - Place barricades from the sides of the road back along the "Downtown" parade route up to Johnston St.

Friday, February 21 - 8:00 am - Place barricades from the sides of the road back along the "Johnston St./N. College" parade route to Cajun Field at Gate 1 entrance (@ Reinhardt).

Saturday, February 22 - 6:00 pm - Public Works crews clean up litter and debris along the parade route. Barricades remain in place.

Tuesday, February 25 - MARDI GRAS DAY - 11:00 pm until - Crews move barricades to the side of the road and clean up litter and debris along the parade route and adjacent areas.

Wednesday, February 26 - No work for Public Works Operations Street and Drainage crews.

Thursday, February 27 - 7:00 am - Crews pick up barricades from the Mardi Gras route and return to the PW yard on Dorset Avenue.

Friday, February 28 - 7:00 am - Crews pick up barricades from Mardi Gras route and return to the PW yard on Dorset Avenue

Other facts:

  • The parade route is approximately 3.9 miles in length.
  • PW Operations places approximately 5500 barricades along the parade route and adjacent areas for crowd control and public safety.
  • PW utilizes eight (8), 30 yard roll-off dumpsters for trash and debris disposal.
  • PW utilizes 122 portable toilets that are placed along the parade route.
