Open Government and Laws

Often, I speak of the importance of our citizens trusting their government. One of the keys to trust is visibility. As a citizen, you have the right to be informed as to the workings of "your" government, which is established by Louisiana law. This gives you the right to have access to certain "public records" and further requires that the business of government be conducted in an ethical and open manner. As part of my Trust Your Government Initiative, I want to ensure you are aware of your right to have access to LCG records and to observe the workings of government.

The attached files were prepared for you, in order to summarize these laws and the exceptions specified by Louisiana law.

The file entitled "Access to Laws – Legal Research" is intended to assist you in finding the laws enacted at the federal, state or local level. By its nature, it is not intended to represent a comprehensive explanation of legal research, but is merely submitted as an aid to assist you in determining such laws.
