City-Parish President Joey Durel and City-Parish Councilmembers will break ground at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 to mark the beginning of construction of the final phase of the Rosa Parks Transportation Center. The contractor for this $8.1M project is The Lemoine Company of Lafayette. Architect for the project is James Broussard & Associates.
After constructing the new building, the existing structure formerly known as Postal Square will be demolished and site-related parking will be constructed. The improvement consists of a two-story, 41,000 square foot building which will house the U.S. Post Office on the ground floor, and the Traffic & Transportation Department’s offices, which include the divisions of Traffic Engineering, Transit, Parking, and Planning/MPO staff, as well as Lafayette’s Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) center.
LCG has leveraged its local funding with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funds. Additionally, the Lafayette Public Trust Finance Authority (LPTFA) contributed $850,000 toward the project funding.
