Satellite Sandbag Station Open in Lafayette Parish
Posted: 7/10/2019 7:00 PM

Lafayette Consolidated Government’s (LCG) Department of Public Works would like to inform Lafayette Parish residents that more sandbag stations are opening temporarily in preparation for the storm in addition to the two local sandbag stations that are open year-round. Residents in areas at risk of flooding are encouraged to take precautions in advance of threatening weather to protect themselves and their properties.

Residents wishing to sandbag their property may access sandbags at one of three locations:

• LCG Compost Facility, located at 400 Dugas Rd., off North University Ave. (permanent, regular sandbag site)

• South District sandbag site, located at 1017 Fortune Rd. in Youngsville (permanent, regular sandbag site)

• Baldwin Redi-Mix, located at 2000 E Broussard Rd in Lafayette, LA near Milton, LA.

The LCG sites are "self-bagging," meaning the bags and sand are provided to Lafayette Parish residents free, at no charge, but residents will need to supply their own manpower and shovel. Residents are asked to limit their sandbags to four bags per exterior door, with a maximum of 20 sandbags per household.

The sand at the Baldwin Redi-Mix site was generously donated by the owners of the company. As with the two other sites, bags and sand are provided at no charge, but residents must provide their own manpower.

Two more satellite sandbag stations will be announced as soon as they are stocked and open to the public.
