Locations for monitoring speed are selected based on historical requests by citizens as part of LCG's Traffic Calming Program and/or receipt of requests from the Police Department and citizen complaints to the Traffic and Transportation Department. Locations on multiple lane and other roadways are selected in an attempt to reduce the severity of traffic crashes caused by vehicles exceeding the speed limit and to provide a renewed awareness of driving in a safe and prudent manner by obeying posted speed limits, thereby changing the behavior of motorists and encouraging a "Safe Lafayette." The Safespeed mobile van locations shown on the map may change without notice. This map is not to be considered all inclusive and is subject to revision at any time.
