CLASS TITLE: LIBRARY ASSOCIATE I

MINIMUM STARTING PAY:  HOURLY - $14.45-$18.06/DOE - MONTHLY - $2,504-$3,130/DOE

PURPOSE AND NATURE OF WORK

Positions in this class work on a specialized library function involving work of a routine nature. Areas of assignment include makerspace, information desk in children’s, teen or adult areas, copy cataloging, programming and event set up, bookmobile and outreach services, and assignments may fluctuate as needed to facilitate work flow. Work may involve standing for extended periods of time, bending, lifting, or pushing carts loaded with books. Incumbents may be required to work some rotating nights and weekends. Current opening is full time; however, regular less than full time positions also exist within the class. Current position is assigned to the bookmobile and outreach services, however future openings may occur in other areas of assignment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree including minor coursework in library science, and experience working in a library or bookstore setting; or any equivalent combination of training and experience desired.

SPECIAL NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Some positions may require a valid Louisiana driver’s license, and Class D Chauffeur’s license following appointment, depending on area of assignment.

TYPE OF EXAMINATION

Examination will be a written test.
