Enables Citizens to Explore How Tax Dollars are Spent

Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) is announcing the launch of OpenBook, an online financial transparency tool for citizens to see how government is spending taxpayer dollars. The web-based, interactive tool gives citizens the opportunity to examine individual departmental budgets and expenses as well as view data and graphs.

Mayor-President Josh Guillory believes citizens should know how government is managing their money and adds that OpenBook will show taxpayers exactly what’s going on in City and Parish government. “With this new tool, we’ll have much greater transparency in City and Parish finances. It allows taxpayers to see exactly how tax dollars are spent. It underlines my commitment to government accountability and transparency. I commend my Finance and Management team for their hard work on this important project,” Guillory said.

Chief Financial Officer Lorrie Toups added that OpenBook is a resource for citizens like never before. “The information is easy to read and navigate. Citizens can access information from the comfort of their own home, at their convenience, and can provide direct feedback to LCG’s Budget Management Division,” Toups said.

Some of the information on the site includes payments made by LCG, the name of the recipient or entity, the date the check was written, the check number and amount, and which department incurred the charges as well as the fund and account number that paid the bill. The information can be sorted by the name of the vendor, department, account code or name and more. The site also features graphs of departmental budgets versus actual expenses.

The OpenBook website will be updated weekly on Mondays and can be accessed at
