LAFYAYETTE JOINS CITIES NATIONWIDE FOR NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
Building police and community partnerships and increasing crime awareness
Lafayette, LA – Neighborhoods throughout Lafayette are invited to join forces with the Lafayette Police Department (LPD) for the 40th Annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, October 3rd.
National Night Out brings together a partnership between the community and police to make neighborhoods safer by raising crime and drug prevention awareness and sending a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
LPD encourages citizens to lock their doors, turn porch lights on in support of National Night Out, and help strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships by joining police officers at Girard Park from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday October 3rd.
Kids can enjoy a fun jump, pizza, face painting, meeting McGruff the Crime Dog and horses of LPD’s Mounted Patrol, and they can walk through the Lafayette Fire Department’s Smoke House where fog simulates smoke and firefighters teach them how smoke detectors work and how to escape a fire. High school students interested in a career in law enforcement can learn about and sign up for the LPD Explorer Program. In addition, nearly a dozen organizations will be on hand offering information to those who attend.
National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by Lafayette Police Department. More than 16,700 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases around the world acknowledge the event.
