PET ADOPTION FEES WAIVED FOR “EMPTY THE SHELTERS” EVENT
Partnership aims to find homes for shelter dogs and cats
Lafayette, LA – The Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center (LASCC) is taking advantage of a third “Empty the Shelters,” event with partner BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness. LASCC will waive pet adoption fees from October 2-14, and the foundation will reimburse the shelter $50 for every dog adopted and $25 for every cat.
Two BISSELL-sponsored adoption events over the summer assisted LASCC in finding homes for more than 200 dogs and cats during the May and June “Empty the Shelter” events: 68 dogs and 41 cats in May and 47 dogs and 50 cats in July, a total of 206 animals who left the shelter for permanent homes. LASCC Adoption Supervisor Misty Gilbert said, “Our biggest need is adopters for large dogs. Most people gravitate toward the little dogs, but we have so many awesome large breed dogs — some are housebroken, they know basic commands, they are known to get along with children, and these dogs deserve a loving home.”
Since 2016, BISSELL Foundation adoption events have helped more than 190,000 pets across the country find loving homes. "Our nation’s animal shelters are facing an overcrowding crisis unlike anything we have experienced in more than a decade. Opening your home to a shelter pet saves a life and creates space to give another pet a chance,” Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation said.
LASCC’s “Empty the Shelters” event:
- October 2-14
- Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from noon-2 p.m.
- All pets are spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped
