MAYOR-PRESIDENT MONIQUE B. BOULET NAMES APPOINTEES TO SUPPORT PLANNING, PRESERVATION, AND PUBLIC SAFETY
Lafayette, LA – Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet has appointed four community members to serve on local boards and commissions, furthering her administration’s commitment to support planning, preservation, and public safety.
Lauren Fitts has been appointed to the Board of Zoning Adjustment (BOZA), which considers appeals and variance requests under the Unified Development Code. Fitts is a dedicated community leader with a proven track record of exceeding goals and building strong partnerships. She currently serves as Development Director for Junior Achievement of Greater Baton Rouge & Acadiana, overseeing fundraising and stewardship across eight parishes. Under her leadership, the Acadiana market has achieved financial stability and consistent growth. A past president of the Rotary Club of Lafayette-North and 2020 Rotarian of the Year, Fitts brings a wealth of experience in development, community engagement, and nonprofit management.
Angelle Pearce, M.S., a small business owner and operator of Cajun Campus, LLC and Pearce Pleasure, LLC, has been appointed to the Lafayette Preservation Commission, which works to protect the parish’s historical and cultural assets. In addition to her business ventures, Pearce is a bus driver at Sugar ‘n Spice Children’s Academy. Her experience as a business owner and community advocate will bring a unique perspective to preserving Lafayette’s heritage.
Chad Sonnier, Director of the Lafayette Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP), has been appointed to the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Advisory Board. Sonnier leads Lafayette Parish’s emergency preparedness efforts, coordinating with federal, state, and local agencies, as well as non-governmental organizations and the private sector. Before joining OHSEP in September 2024, Sonnier served as Fire Chief for the City of Scott for 23 years, where he led disaster mitigation, recovery, and emergency response operations. Sonnier’s leadership is crucial in enhancing Lafayette Parish’s emergency management capacity.
Nancy Surosky has been appointed to Keep Lafayette Beautiful, a board dedicated to environmental stewardship, beautification efforts, and fostering community pride. Surosky brings more than 25 years of experience in community relations, nonprofit fundraising, and government engagement. She previously served as Development Director and Donor Relations Officer at the Acadiana Center for the Arts, where she was instrumental in securing funding and building relationships to support the arts in Acadiana.
