THE LAFAYETTE INTERNATIONAL CENTER

Overview:

The Lafayette International Center was established as a division of the City of Lafayette in October 1989 and opened to the public in April 1990, supporting international trade and tourism by fostering interactions between local and foreign officials and business leaders. A variety of trade- and culture-related resources are located within the center, now part of the Executive Office of the Lafayette City-Parish Consolidated Government. The Center is supported by an advisory board, the Lafayette International Center Foundation.

To connect Lafayette to the world and the world to Lafayette.

Mission:

To facilitate global awareness and engagement within the community and region.

Goals:

  1. Enhance Lafayette’s global reputation by creating international opportunities for the city-parish government, businesses, and citizens.
  2. Increase knowledge and opportunities in international trade and talent.
  3. Strengthen the local community by promoting its culture and heritage abroad.
  4. Strengthen and connect the local international communities to LCG.

Objectives:

  • Identify markets and trade opportunities, offer export counseling, and provide export financing referrals.
  • Connect local businesses with trade services at the local, state and federal levels.
  • Support sister-city relations for Lafayette and Acadiana towns.
  • Develop cultural and eco-tourism and attract international groups and conventions.
  • Support international education programs in partnership with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and South Louisiana Community College.
  • Support local international communities and organizations.
  • Provide programs and events such as export seminars, webinars, and workshops.
  • Organize trade missions and participate in trade shows.
  • Facilitate recruitment of international talent to enhance Lafayette’s creative sectors.
