LAFAYETTE CONSOLIDATED GOVERNMENT ADOPTS FY25-26 BUDGET, ADVANCING MAJOR INVESTMENTS IN INFRASTRUCTURE AND PUBLIC SAFETY

Lafayette, LA – Tonight, the Lafayette City and Parish Councils adopted the final budget for Fiscal Year 2025-2026, following months of work by the Boulet Administration and its Office of Finance & Management to develop a balanced spending plan that meets Lafayette’s most pressing needs.

Lafayette Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet expressed gratitude to both the councils and the community for their confidence in Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) and participation in this public process. “This budget represents not only an investment in critical infrastructure and services, but also a shared vision for a stronger, safer, and more resilient Lafayette Parish,” Boulet said.

Key Investments in FY25–26 Budget
  • Critical Community Investments: Funding secured for transformative infrastructure and quality-of-life projects including but not limited to:
    • Johnston Street improvements
    • University Avenue Corridor
    • Carmel Drive sidewalks
    • Pinhook Road turn lane
    • Cormier Road improvements
    • Completion of Parish Courthouse renovations
  • Roadway & Bridge Improvements: more than $31 million dedicated to reconstruction, replacements, and repairs across both City and Parish systems.
  • Bertrand Drive Modernization: Full funding secured, with construction anticipated to break ground in 2025.
  • Public Safety: $81 million of the City General Fund committed to police and fire protection, including an increase in funding for rural fire protection and life-saving equipment. Sprinter vehicles will be allocated to the Lafayette Fire Department to reduce wear and tear on fire trucks used in medical response calls.
  • Flood Mitigation: Implementation of new home elevation, property buyout, and drainage betterment programs, alongside completion of the Homewood and Coulee Ile Des Cannes detention ponds.
  • Parks, Arts, Recreation & Culture (PARC): Significant reinvestment in facilities and staffing, aimed at reducing reliance on contractual services and ensuring consistent service delivery across the parish.
Looking Ahead
“This budget is about strengthening the foundation of our parish—from roads and drainage to public safety and recreation—while preparing for the future,” Boulet added. “We look forward to bringing these projects to life with the continued support of our councils and our residents.”
