GIRARD PARK POOL OPENING DELAYED, REOPENING IN SIGHT AFTER IMPROVEMENTS

Lafayette, LA – Due to an unexpected pump failure on June 7, 2025, the Girard Park Pool was unable to reopen as originally scheduled and announced by the Lafayette Parks, Arts, Recreation, and Culture (PARC) Department. Repairs to the failed pump are underway, and the pool is now projected to open on Monday, June 23, 2025, pending equipment delivery and no further issues. We understand the community’s anticipation—especially since the pool has not been open since summer 2019—and we are close to making this long-awaited reopening a reality.

In preparation for this opening, Lafayette Consolidated Government has invested in improvements to ensure the facility is safe, functional, and welcoming for all residents. Work completed to date includes:

  • Replacement of lifeguard chairs
  • New entry ladders for improved pool access
  • Fresh paint for enhanced safety and clear depth markings
  • Repairs to cracks in the inner pool foundation
  • Operational upgrades, including pump replacements

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we finalize this work and prepare to welcome the public back. An update will be shared if any changes to the timeline occur.
