LAFAYETTE CONSOLIDATED GOVERNMENT BREAKS GROUND ON 12TH AND SURREY STREETS STREETSCAPE PROJECT
Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) has officially broken ground on the 12th and Surrey Streets Streetscape Project, a $5 million investment that marks the start of major infrastructure improvements along the 12th Street corridor.
The project, in the heart of the McComb-Veazey neighborhood, will enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility through the installation of new sidewalks and stamped brick crosswalks. Transit infrastructure will also be upgraded with new bus stops, while landscaping features will improve the overall look and feel of the corridor.
Construction is already underway, with saw-cutting and pavement removal progressing block by block from Plum Street to Crocket Street. The project is expected to be completed in approximately 18 months.
The 12th Street project is the first major streetscape initiative tied to the broader revitalization of the Evangeline Corridor. It reflects years of planning and coordination, including support from the Evangeline Thruway Redevelopment Team (ETRT), which played a key role in moving the project forward.
LCG acknowledges the contributions of project partners including CSRS for design and planning, Progressive Construction Company for construction management, and the Public Works Department for overseeing implementation.
Once completed, the improvements will create a safer, more functional, and more welcoming environment for residents, businesses, and transit riders.
LCG thanks the surrounding community for its continued support and patience during construction and looks forward to delivering a finished project that reflects the shared vision for a stronger, more connected Lafayette.
