LCG RAISES AMERICA250 FLAG LAUNCHING YEARLONG COMMEMORATION OF NATION’S 250TH ANNIVERSARY

Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet welcomed committee members, community partners, and residents this morning as Lafayette Consolidated Government officially raised the America250 flag at City Hall, marking the beginning of a yearlong commemoration honoring the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The America250 initiative recognizes the nation’s semiquincentennial in 2026 and invites communities across the country to reflect on the enduring ideals of liberty, equality, democracy, and self-governance while engaging citizens in shaping the future of the United States. In Lafayette Parish, the commemoration is part of the national America250 effort and also highlights Louisiana’s unique role and contributions to the nation’s history through Louisiana America250.

This local effort is made possible through collaboration with key community partners, including Lafayette Consolidated Government, Lafayette Veterans Affairs Commission, Lafayette Travel, Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, and Parish Proud.

A major highlight of the America250 year in Lafayette Parish will be Lafayette Stars and Stripes on July 4, which will serve as the focal point of the local commemoration. The signature celebration in Parc International will bring the community together to honor the nation’s history with live music, food, local vendors, fireworks, and more.

Residents, visitors, schools, nonprofits, and businesses can stay informed about America250 events, educational opportunities, volunteer opportunities, and resources in Lafayette Parish by visiting lafayettela.gov/america250 or by emailing america250@lafayettela.gov.
