EVANGELINE CORRIDOR INITIATIVE

As the I-49 Connector is planned and built, the Evangeline Thruway and Lafayette's oldest neighborhoods are facing change. The Evangeline Corridor Initiative (ECI) supports collaboration and engagement with the people who know the area best — those who live and work there. Through a two-year effort of the ECI consultant team and with much public input, the Evangeline Thruway Redevelopment Team (ETRT) unanimously adopted the Evangeline Corridor Initiative Report and District Design Manuals. Both the report and design manuals detail the underlying dynamics of the selected neighborhoods, opportunities for redevelopment and recommends catalytic projects to revitalize important neighborhood assets. The ECI Plan has been endorsed by the Lafayette City-Parish Council and Planning Commission.

The Evangeline Thruway Redevelopment Team (ETRT) is a committee formed by the City-Parish Council in 2015 and consists of 15 members. The members are selected by the City Council, the Mayor-President, UL Lafayette, SMILE, Downtown Development Authority, and the Bayou Vermilion District. The ETRT has been charged with overseeing the planning and implementation of the Evangeline Corridor Initiative as well as providing direct feedback to City Council members on future actions and funding.

Community Initiated Project Grants (CIP Grants)

The Community Initiated Project grants builds upon ideas and dedication in the core of our Evangeline Corridor neighborhoods by providing funds to organizations for certain community based projects. Projects submitted through the grant program should be ones that contribute to place making, community pride, cultural history, or recreation. Grants through this program range from $1,000 to $5,000. Applications are accepted annually during the months of October – December (recipients announced in December). This program allows Evangeline Thruway Redevelopment Team to work alongside organizations large and small to help advance the Evangeline Corridor.

Apply for Cycle Three today! Our grant application period is open October 16, 2023 – December 1, 2023. Do you have a community project ready for funding in the Evangeline Corridor? Follow the below steps to get your application submitted,

  • Go to the application portal
  • Click current jurisdiction in top right corner
  • Click change jurisdiction
  • Select State – Louisiana from dropdown
  • Select Jurisdiction – Lafayette -  from dropdown
  • Click continue
  • Click “Apply for Development & Planning” on left side
  • Find and select (Neighborhood) CIP Grant Application
  • Create New Account for Application management
  • Login using new account username and password
  • Proceed with (Neighborhood) CIP Grant Application submission
