$2.9M Frem Boustany Extension Bridge Under Construction
NEW FREM BOUSTANY EXTENSION BRIDGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION
$2.9 Million Lafayette Infrastructure Investment Will Improve Connectivity from Frem Boustany Drive to Vincent Road
LAFAYETTE, LA – As Lafayette continues to grow, improved connectivity and infrastructure investments are critical to supporting that growth. Lafayette Consolidated Government’s (LCG) Capital Improvements Department is leading the construction of a new concrete bridge connecting The Vineyard subdivision to Sonoma Gardens subdivision near Vincent Road.
Designed by C.H. Fenstermaker & Assoc. and constructed by Reliant Industrial Solutions, the five-span bridge will include vehicle lanes and sidewalks that cross Isaac Verot Coulee to connect Alastair Grove Lane with McCord Drive. The project will improve connectivity in this rapidly growing area, provide multiple points of entry to the two neighborhoods, and enhance access to Verot School Road and Ambassador Caffery Parkway.
Construction began in July 2026 and is expected to be complete in November 2027, weather permitting. The bridge’s pilings, which serve as support structures, have been driven into the coulee. The next phase involves pouring the pile caps, which connect the individual piles and complete the deep foundation work before installation of the bridge deck.
The $2.9 million construction cost is funded with city and parish tax dollars in addition to multiple year bonds and includes roadway and drainage channel improvements. Concrete approaches will extend the existing roadways to connect to the bridge. Channel modifications and hardening will help prevent natural channel shifting and erosion, further stabilizing the bridge.
“As Lafayette grows and new neighborhoods develop, our infrastructure has to grow with them,” said Lafayette Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet. “Creating additional connections like this gives residents more ways to move and improves access to our larger road network. This investment in Lafayette is another example of our continued work to address congestion, develop critical networks, invest in infrastructure and build for growth.”
