$800K Tideland Road Drainage Project Underway

LCG ADDRESSES RAPID EROSION WITH TIDELAND ROAD OUTFALL PROJECT

$800,000 drainage investment will stabilize channel and protect adjacent properties

LAFAYETTE, LA – Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) is addressing significant erosion along the Tideland Road Outfall near Tideland and Mineral Roads in the Southpark area, where rapidly moving water has caused the drainage channel to expand toward adjacent businesses.

LCG Drainage identified that erosion along the earthen channel was occurring at an unusually fast rate. Without intervention, continued erosion could eventually extend beneath the structures on either side of the channel and threaten their foundations.

LCG Drainage engineers developed a long-term solution to stabilize the channel, control erosion and improve the outfall into Coulee des Poches. The Capital Improvements Department (CID) is now overseeing construction of the improvements. Crews are constructing a vertical-wall channel to establish and maintain the width of the drainage channel. Additional improvements, including grading and strategically placed concrete blocks along the channel bottom, are designed to slow the velocity of moving water and reduce future erosion. Once the channel work is complete, crews will improve the outfall and install flexible revetment along the opposite bank for additional erosion protection. The project presents a unique construction challenge because the drainage channel runs between two existing businesses, leaving crews with a narrow area in which to work.

The Tideland Road Outfall Project represents an approximately $800,000 investment of Lafayette Parish funds and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027. Progressive Construction is the project contractor.

The project is one of 25 capital improvement projects currently under construction, representing approximately $94 million in investment. Learn more and follow construction progress at lafayettela.gov/constructionmap.
