Lafayette Halloween Hours and Trick-or-Treat Safety Tips

LCG REMINDS RESIDENTS OF HALLOWEEN HOURS, TRICK-OR-TREAT SAFETY

Lafayette, LA – The city of Lafayette will observe Halloween on Saturday, October 31, 2026, with trick-or-treat hours from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. that same evening.

Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) encourages families, drivers and residents to keep safety in mind while celebrating Halloween. The Lafayette Police Department (LPD) is also getting into the Halloween spirit with a special Halloween safety video highlighting a few simple ways families can stay safe while trick-or-treating. [WATCH THE VIDEO]

LCG and LPD recommend the following precautions for a safe and enjoyable evening:

  • Be visible: Carry flashlights or glow sticks and add reflective tape or other reflective materials to dark-colored costumes.
  • Keep children close: Adults should accompany young children, limit distractions and make sure children stay on sidewalks and out of the roadway whenever possible.
  • Check treats: Adults should inspect all treats before children eat them and only accept wrapped or packaged candy.
  • Drive carefully: Slow down and stay alert in neighborhoods and other areas where children may be trick-or-treating.
  • Celebrate responsibly: Adults attending Halloween parties should plan ahead for a safe ride home and practice responsible drinking. Never drink and drive.

While Halloween is more of a community custom than it is a government event, LCG acknowledges the tradition of trick-or-treating. LCG and the Lafayette Police Department work to provide public safety awareness around Halloween and trick-or-treating activities. LCG, however, does not regulate Halloween or trick-or-treating and thus does not mandate when related activities may or may not occur. LCG understands that neighborhoods may coordinate alternate dates and times for trick-or-treating and recognizes the rights of groups and organizations to do so.

Families can also celebrate early at the Lafayette Police Department’s 10th annual Trunk or Treat event on Wednesday, October 28 at Cajun Field (2351 W Congress Street) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Bring your kids for a safe and fun-filled evening with treats and activities. This free community gathering is a great way for children and families to celebrate Halloween together in the heart of Lafayette.

LCG wishes everyone a safe and happy Halloween!
