$12.2 MILLION LAFAYETTE PARISH COURTHOUSE RENOVATION PROJECT COMPLETE
Completion of Phase III marks the end of the three-phase renovation effort, delivered on time and within budget
LAFAYETTE, La. – Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) announces the completion of the $12.2 million, three-phase renovation of the Lafayette Parish Courthouse, delivering improvements to the fourth, fifth, and seventh floors on time and within budget.
The recently completed Phase III focused on the courthouse’s fifth floor and included asbestos abatement, fireproofing and floor renovations. Its completion marks the conclusion of the full three-phase effort to modernize key courthouse spaces and support ongoing court operations.
Originally built in the 1960s, the Lafayette Parish Courthouse has long served as a vital hub of justice and public service for Lafayette Parish. The renovation addressed needs within an aging facility while improving courtrooms, office and public spaces, building systems and safety features.
Across all three phases, the $12,174,875 project included design and construction for renovations to the seventh floor, as well as asbestos abatement and renovations to the fourth and fifth floors. Work included demolition of existing walls and construction of new, compliant fire-rated walls to accommodate enhanced floor plans with courtrooms, deliberation rooms, office space and other key courthouse features. Public restrooms, HVAC systems, ceilings and lighting on the affected floors were also upgraded.
The seventh-floor renovations provided updated workspace for employees who relocated while asbestos abatement, fireproofing and renovation work took place on the fourth and fifth floors, helping maintain court operations throughout construction.
The project reflects LCG and the Boulet Administration’s commitment to responsibly reinvesting in public facilities that serve residents across Lafayette Parish and addressing long-standing facility needs while helping ensure the courthouse remains safe, functional and accessible for residents and employees who rely on it.
